All - Huge LSU fan (Baton Rouge native) here. I have a full size single bar facemask replica helmet signed by over 30 members of the 1958 National Championship team. Billy Cannon, Durel Matherne, Scooter Purvis, Emile Fournet, Max Fugler, Ed McCreedy, Scotty McLain, Dave McCarty, Coach Dietzel, Johnny Robinson, Mickey Mangham, Lynn LeBlanc, Darryl Jenkins, Andy Bourgeois, Al Ott, Tommy Neck, Warren Rabb, Hart Bourque, George O'Neal, Gus Riess, Don Norwood, Gus Kinchen, Mike Stupka and others. I am still searching for the remaining players and will not stop until I have met them and asked them to sign also. What makes this helmet really special is that I didn't attend a reunion or signing. I located and called each player and visited with them in their homes or at McDonald's over a cup of coffee and heard amazing stories. I really enjoyed meeting this great group of guys. I will treasure it for the rest of my life. I know what this helmet is worth to me - priceless. I just thought someone out there might find this interesting. :geaux:
awesome. you should write a book about your stories. i have a current helmet with cannon, rabb, deitzel, and saban's sigs. i need miles.
I started about 8 weeks ago and have been to Lafayette, Monroe, Houston, Lutcher, Lake Charles and of course around Baton Rouge. I am amazed at how appreciative the players were that I remembered them and wanted them to sign.:geaux:
I have actually thought about a book of stories. I know I enjoyed them. My brother-in-law took his helmet to Miles' office and left it and 3 days later he picked it up and it was signed. Miles does that - just go to his office on campus.
Wow, now that Lou Saban has passed away earlier this year, I'm sure his signature is even more special for you. Good job getting that ! How did you get Lou to sign the helmet, heard he was reluctant to do anything like that. Come to think of it, why would you want Lou to sign an LSU helmet?
:hihi: well my lovely wife (fiancee at the time) back in '04 got a fella by the name of nick saban to sign my helmet. it was the first signature on it. i wonder what ever happened to that guy???
Oh yeah, he couldn't figure out how to walk less miles so he went back to W. Va. to work in the coal mines there. Yonder he is:
