"Nola became the first Tiger pitcher to throw four straight complete games since Mike Sirotka in 1993." (Sirotka would go on to finish #7 in the American League with five complete games in 1998) keeping in mind that Mike Sirotka did that back in the days of the old bats when things were much tougher as a pitcher... here's what became of Sirotka: at LSU: 1990 -- #6 on team in innings pitched, #3 in ERA -- CWS 1991 -- #3 on team in innings pitched, #1 in ERA -- NATIONAL CHAMPS (LSU's 1st) 1992 -- #4 on team in innings pitched, #8 in ERA 1993 -- #1 on team in innings pitched, #2 in ERA (1.99, #1 Brett Laxton had 1.98) -- NATIONAL CHAMPS (LSU's 2nd) then he was drafted by the White Sox and played six seasons in the Majors before injuries ended his career, with his prime coming from 1998-2000 from a White Sox blog: "Mike Sirotka was one of my favorite pitchers to toe the rubber for the White Sox...Sirotka was a bright spot in an otherwise dark very dark era in White Sox starting pitching. ... In 1998, Sirotka...had the lowest ERA of the 6 starters. ... In 1999...Sirotka again proved to be the ace of the staff...(his) 4.00 ERA was good for 8th best in the American League...Sirotka also finished in the top 10 in WAR for American League pitchers, with a 4.0...Sirotka really started to find his groove in 2000. He went 15-10 (#9 in the American League in wins) with a 3.79 ERA (#4 in the American League) as the White Sox came out of nowhere to win the AL Central and have the most wins (95) in the league."
last night marked Paul Mainieri's 300th career win at LSU, as he improved his record to 300-128-2 (.700) in seven seasons at the helm of the Fighting Tiger program.

That's the first time in over a decade we have swept Florida LSU Baseball @LSUbaseball 24h No. 3 LSU sweeps No. 19 Florida for the first time since 2001
Man i can't believe i missed this game. It was our only game this regular season on ESPN2 (South Carolina game 3 was, and aTm game 3 will be, on ESPN) and look at all the great things we did per LSUsports: 1) Jones' grand slam was hit OFF THE SCOREBOARD 2) the first LSU grand slam of the year 3) the most runs scored in a game so far this season by LSU and the most runs we've scored on an SEC team in several years 4) The first sweep of Florida in over a decade 5) The 3rd-largest blow out we've had over Florida ever 6) Jones set personal bests for most home runs in a season and most RBI's in a game Four of the sixth-inning runs came off of the bat of second baseman JaCoby Jones, who delivered a grand slam off of the scoreboard in left field. Jones has dingers on the year, a career-high for home runs in a season. He also finished with a career-high six RBIs in today’s game. Jones’ grand slam was the first by an LSU hitter since Mason Katz launched one versus Georgia on April 28, 2012 in Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers’ 18 runs Saturday marked the most runs scored in a game by LSU this season and the 12-run difference was the third-largest margin of victory for the Tigers in a game against Florida. Saturday’s win also capped the first sweep for LSU against Florida since 2001 in Alex Box Stadium. The 18 runs represented the most for LSU against an SEC opponent since the Tigers scored 18 against Tennessee on April 17, 2009 in Alex Box Stadium. The 19 hits Saturday represented the most for LSU against a league foe since the Tigers had 19 hits against Florida in the first round of the SEC Tournament on May 26, 2010 in Hoover, Ala.
