Only fat cats need apply. This sends a message to the common fan that LSU does not need . . . you aren't important. Pick a better facility if you can't allow an average fan to attend. My guess is that this has nothing to do with the facility, but with elitism. The AD should be making sure that they are there for the entire fan base, not just the connected ones. This ain't going to help his already tepid reputation among LSU fans.
Yeah, after rereading I guess that was pretty cryptic. The point I was trying to make is that to have a team that people want to see and people are excited about, you have to have money. To get money, you have to charge people for access. We all bitch about the ticket hikes but that's what the university decides it needs and can get to keep it all going. Sure we'd all love for free tickets to every game and field a contender each year but it isn't possible. So it's a balance between giving access at times for free and at other times for money. Sometimes they miss.
Sure, but if I was planning this event, I would have it both ways. I would make damn sure that reasonably priced admission tickets would never be locked out of an LSU fan event because of available space. Find a facility (maybe the River Center) large enough to have a huge main hall with reserved tables and general admission tables and a big screen and a stage PLUS have a large side room or two with a fancier caterer for the big donors and insiders to schmooze with each other. Les could spend time glad-handing in the fat cats' room but still come out and talk to the whole crowd when the letters all come in. If the River Center is too expensive, do it in the LSU field house with the PMAC right next door.
Just like in the stadium, trying to keep out the riff raff(middle class). Wouldn't want the wine and cheese crowd having to rub elbows with the undesirables(blue collar crowd).
