I’ll be happy if we start new streaks like this; kinda feels like we’re reaching with this one, but it’s an interesting stat.
This is a streak to be proud of, even if it's not exactly t-shirt material. Before this streak began in 2000 LSU: - had no national profile - was an afterthought in the SEC - regularly delivered losing seasons - hard to even follow on TV - a one-time National Champion from generations back - a zero-time SEC Title Game Participant Think of what the blue-chip programs from back then have gone through while LSU has held it together: Tenn, UF, Miami, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, USC....... It's impressive.
FWIW, LSU is #16 All-time wins according to Wiki. To say we sucked b/c of no TV coverage before the advent of cable is a stretch. We just played second fiddle to Bama in the late 19's as we do more/less today.
Cable television was widespread in the 1990s and before. Do you think that 18 years of goodness might have helped the Tigers get to #16 all-time in wins? LSU played second, third, and fourth fiddle to everyone back then. See for yourself: https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/louisiana-state/
Let's face it. The 90's sucked. But into well into the 2000's not every game was available nationally on cable. There was Tigervision for $40. If you lived in Louisiana you could watch LSU vs USL or Troy that weren't being carried by ESPN. Now all games can be watched nationwide on either CBS, one of the ESPN channels or the SEC Network. The only time I ever paid for an app was when I was in Maryland and Justin.tv was the only way to watch LSU vs Idaho. Some guy in Lafayette was pointing a camera at his TV and streaming it.
This subject has been discussed ad nauseum (@tirk sp?). They were high teens prior to 2000 if I recall. But sure, you win. We sucked...
