Neither do I. Implementing a stricter rule (# of years out of high school pre-req) to curb it would greatly improve college basketball imo.
Wrong. Players would follow Brandon Jennings example and head out to Europe for the years before the NBA. And they would be paid around a million a year to do it. Heck, some players would leave while they were in high school.
Trent will be back. The SEC championship in 2009 assured that. Our best scorer and another major contributor are not playing right now. Lets see how we look when Storm and Turner are available.
no, enrolling kids that have no business in a university is the worst thing that ever happened to college bb. there should be no formal impediments to an adult making a living.
we'll see. nothing much has changed since his hire. he can coach, but can he get the right kids here? no coach would win with stringer, derenbecher, white, dotson and green. dotson is getting closer to a bust every game and white is embarrassing. cant afford to many of those weak spots on the roster. but i do have high confidence that they will be competitive in the sec in two years with turner, stringer, derenbecher, ludwig, courtney and a few additions.
I could only watch a few minutes of this game online, but needless to say, I understand the generally negative sentament on this board and probably with fans. Losing by close to 30 points against Ole Miss, who was frankly a wounded, but hungry ... uh tiger?, on a weekend where we honored our Final Four teams had kind of dare I say "Brady" kind of feel to it... You know where LSU would try to set him up for a win at home and he'd lose a game folks really wanted him to win? It hurts. After reading the post game comments from Trent, Matt, and Andre, I think some of them just really seem at a loss. As I've mentioned on other threads, there is just sort of a fundamental "toughness", get after it, kind of thing that is missing from this team. Yes, you could blame it on youth, but at some point that stops. 19 rebounds? to 33 from Ole Miss? Shooting 25% from the field in the second half? Ugh. Just not a good game to play with less than 100% effort on a day when frankly a team that was supposed to challenge for the SEC West comes in 0-4. Let's also be realistic about the team we played. Chris Warren is All-SEC, and many of the guards and forwards on Ole Miss's team are good and experienced. Is this team one of the "worst" ever? Should Trent go? Well, for those that haven't seen it, I'd probably pull up the interview on Friday with Rudy Macklin and Ricky Blanton, some cats that know something about basketball--it's available at LSUsports.net. What they said about the coach and that they were saying about how he was building his program was to me encouraging. The fact that guys like Dale Brown, Macklin, Blanton and guys like Glen Davis, Tas' Mitchell, Tyrus Thomas, are coming back to the program and supporting Trent is a good sign. One of the points that was made in the interview was important. Teams back then in the Macklin days, didn't have "one and done" phenomenons. The Macklins of the world stayed in school for 3-4 years, and the talent wasn't as "diluted" as it is today. That's why mid-majors are winning today. They have kids who are juniors and seniors staying 4 years. As much as we're hard on Dotson. He's a true 2nd year player. Matt and Andre are freshmen. To say that these kids are the "worse" team at LSU is probably a little unfair, when you consider the potential, and the fact that a kid like Terrance Henry for OM (a LA product that Brady failed to sign) has been playing 3-4 years already. To be fair, Stringer actually didn't have a bad game. He didn't force shots, he hit some threes, and had a 2-2 A-TO game. Derenbecker, well, if he has space to shoot, he can score and he's had some very encouraging games with Turner out. We again didn't have Turner, our leading scorer, to injury. Then, you look at our inside game. That was pretty bad, period. Lost rebounds, poor shooting. Are Hamilton, O'Bryant going to help this next year, and "balance" this team? Yes, I think so. Are an older group of Stringer, Turner and Derenbecker (with a developing talent like John Isaac) going to help next year? Yes. Now, the way I do see it, LSU still has some talent obviously to build, but it IS building (signings in 2011-2012 will be key to Trent keeping his job and keeping "consistency" going). Sometimes I look for "easy points" factor--how "easy" is it for a team score? Well, on some teams, like the Bulls with Jordan, or Dale Brown's Chris Jackson, Shaq' teams (or even Trent's team with Thornton/Mitchell), there was an "easy" factor. You have go to guys, who can buy you a bucket. Who's that guy on this team? Well, it was Turner and he's hurt. Green? Stringer? Derenbecker? You get the point. Now, again, this is part youth and part talent. I do believe that Stringer, Derenbecker, Turner, Dotson as Juniors and Seniors are going to be alright. But, they have to get better, mentally and physically, and I think they will. Our front court of White, Green, and Warren, well, they've been inconsistent at best and that's where it's frustrating--they're juniors (also to be fair, Warren's been hurt). Something tells me that yesterday, they played not to lose, instead of playing to win. And, sometimes that's just getting hungrier, playing harder and then winning turns into more winning. I do think the direction of the program is going in the right direction, and Trent is at least doing the right things to build a program. He's probably got next year to prove folks like Macklin, Blanton right about that. I think obviously, fans have to have some patience, but at the same time, Trent's ability to light a fire with some of these kids, is going to be key the rest of the season as well.
If that is the sentiment after one game then the Spurs should just pack it in and go home because the Hornets embarrassed them last night. Point is there will be bad games but it doesn't make this a bad team. Inconsistency is a sign of youth. Even Kentucky has had it's moments of lapse albeit smaller since their can recruit from a better talent pool.
Even if he's not it was worth the try Dinardo Fan. It was past time for Brady to go. If Trent doesn't get the job done he too will go.
