When you are not prepared. I have seen interviews with the wingman (female) and she swears she was prepared to do that. I think the squadron CO was the lead, dont remember, but the #2 was going to ram, if necessary.
Andrews is a bullshit base. Having said, that, both my babies born there. Actually, if something is so close you need Andrews, it is way too late. I think that POS is called Joint Base Andrews now. One of the OB/GYN docs was really smokin hot. Hoped she would give me a demo on what to expect! Not.
That was the worst part of watching it live as it all unfolded. Seeing those people who were still alive and knowing they would be dead in just a few seconds
I've had students who have googled the remains on the sidewalk of the people who jumped. I wouldn't even look more than a second. Horrifying.
I found the thud of their bodies hitting the awnings and such below was a far worse thing than watching them jump.
Absolutely. Knowing the level of desperation for the people trapped on the floors above the impact sites is just horrifying. I watched one program that suggested the smoke would eventually have killed them before the flames. I guess that's a little better if true. Regardless, it was a horrible way to go.
