What happened with the umpire getting beaned? I must have listened to Hawthorne and Hanagriff yammer about it for 5 minutes without them actually describing what happened.

Foul ball came back and hit him square in the mask. Knocked him back for a second. The announcers on cbs sports channel thought he got hit it the back of the head because he reached up and grabbed the mask, but the replay showed straight in the middle.

Edit: apparently he got hit in the next inning.

    "Tough day for umpire

Home plate umpire Danny Everett had a rough afternoon. First he took a hard foul ball off the bat of Fury to the lower part of his facemask in the bottom of the third. Trainers checked on him for a few minutes, and he stayed in the game.
A few minutes later in the top of the fourth, Will Allen ripped a foul ball that caught Everett high on his facemask, and he fell to the ground. He had to leave the game, which was delayed for a few minutes before Everett was replaced by second base umpire Randy Watkins.
LSU officials said after the game Everett was fine and on his way home."

I wonder if LSU jumps UNC and Vandy this week in the final regular season poll? Doesn't really matter much, but would be kinda cool. As long as we get er done in the regionals and CWS.

On a side note, I am hoping to make the jaunt from NC to NEB for my first CWS this year. I have a friend who lives in Omaha, so we may take the opportunity to visit them and go see LSU in the CWS. My son turns 10 the next month, so it will be a supercool experience that he'll remember.

No way we pass Vandy. They have one less loss than us and they won the SEC outright. I'm not saying they're better; just ranked higher...for now. We should definitely be ahead of UNC. They lost their last two series of the year. They played their two toughest opponents, but still. We're already ahead of UNC in half the polls already. We both have the same number of losses, but we only lost one series to their two, plus they've now lost two series in a row. We'll be home for the regionals, and, if necessary, super regionals. That's all that really matters, IMO. Every team left standing after that plays in the same ballpark. We might get to see Vandy in the SECT. Here's hoping we meet them in the finals. GEAUX TIGERS!!!

When he said above LSU wins the series, I thought he meant all 3 games, then I saw that we lost game #3, 11-9. If we had "swept" the series, I was thinking we may jump Vandy, too, but as you say all that matters at this point is what happens in the regionals and super regioinals.

We probably would have, but CPM decided to rest all of his starters. With that said, the backups did chase arguably the best pitcher in the SEC in the 4th inning. We had the lead for a while, but the bullpen couldn't hold it.
