I didn't challenge that statement. I challenged the one that quoted Obama as saying that unemployment would go below 8 percent.
That ain't what your article says. It says that Christina Romer and Jared Bernstein wrote a paper predicting this. This was back when Obama was still running for office and neither was part of an administration. Obama has in fact never made such a statement and it was misleading to suggest it.
An where are they now? obamas take on it now..... "Now, every economist who has looked at it has said that the recovery did its job," Obama said. "It put a brake on the collapse of the economy. We avoided a Great Depression. We are now growing again. The problem is, No. 1, it’s hard to argue sometimes, things would have been a lot worse. Right? So people kind of say, yeah, but unemployment is still at 9.6. Yes, but it’s not 12 or 13, or 15."
Actually that statement was in January 2009 after Obama had been President for a year. As you said about Bush, it's on his watch. His Administration said no more than 8%. Barry's prints are all over it. PolitiFact | Will: Obama said stimulus would cap unemployment at 8 percent
Here is the Romer/Bernstein report. Check out the graph on page 4: And, this was AFTER Obama was inaugurated, not during the campaign. http://otrans.3cdn.net/ee40602f9a7d8172b8_ozm6bt5oi.pdf
Did hell freeze over? :hihi: Yes, I've read it and already explained the difference between a Barrack Obama promise (which it is not) and an estimate made by others based on pubic data and disclosing the formulas used. I presume that you didn't read the footnotes on page 13. (only scientists, lawyers, and librarians read the footnotes). They spell out the caveats and make it obvious that the projections are estimates and that they could be 2 percent higher. Promises are absolute but a promise was not made. Estimates have margins of error and this estimate spells those out for you. When was it written? The authors are cited on the cover as: Christina Romer -- Chair Nominee Designate, Council of Economic Advisers. Jared Bernstein -- Office of the Vice-President Elect And it is dated January 9, 2009. Obama was inaugurated on January 20, 2009.
Just flushing you out. I concede. The stimulus worked and all of America has jobs and money. Milk and Honey, Obama style.
