To me it losees credibilty with Fenway at 11. I gotta think Fenway is top 5. And how is Autzen stadium higher than us. Who cares about that place?
How the Superdome is not top five is beyond me. It can replace either the Astrodome or Camden Yards. The author mentions Final Fours, but leaves out that two of those Final Fours are among the most memorable of all time (Jordan's last second shot to beat Georgetown and Chris Webber's timeout), New Orleans Jazz games with Pete Maravich, Muhammad Ali beat Leon Spinks, Sugar Ray leonard beat Roberto Duran ("No Mas!") and Bayou Classics? You can throw in the 1988 GOP Convention and the Pope, too although neither are sporting events. Hell, the Superdome should make it in the top five just on football games alone but the other glaring omissions shove into the top two.
I liked the FARK headline about east coast bias and douchebaggery. Actually, douchebaggery could apply to Augusta (bunch of pompous self-important assclowns) and Southern Cal (fraud playing in a joke of a conference and getting the benefit of a media BJ).
This guy loses any respect in authority to develop this ranking if he has Tiger Stadium that low. I guess "most important" is the key here, but still. There was a sportswriter last year who listed the top 10 places in the world to see a sporting event, and Tiger Stadium was #3, with soccer stadiums in Europe and Chile ranked ahead. I will try to find that link and list it. Did anyone else see that?
I am not trying to slap anyone down, but Autzen stadium is HORRIBLE. I had the misfortune of pulling a work assignment in Eugene, Oregon for a couple of months. I happened to be doing something right next to the stadium. I couldn't believe my eyes. I think the expanded the stadium, but it used to only seat 45,000. 45,000!!! And people up there claim to be serious about college football? I think the Oregon State stadium only had a capacity of 38,000 recently, although they might have expanded that as well (to 45,000) At any rate, I love college football stadiums, but I was unimpressed. Nothing like tailgating in the cold winter rain. Oh, and I heard they wanted to ban alcohol in the parking lots. Don't know where they pulled that off or not. I'd take Tiger stadium any day, all day over a place like Autzen. Seriously. Wow. By the way, imagine if the question was this: Most well known sports stadium... Where do you think both Tiger Stadium and especially the Dome would rank then? :hihi:
Well of course Yankee Stadium is going to be No. #1. It's ESPN. And no they are not the pompous, self-righteous "who will coach LSU tonight now that Miles has left" network some think them to be. After all they ranked themselves only 10th on the list, barely edged out by the Rose Bowl. (Herbtreit's brain is #23, I think). Caeser's Palace ahead of the Superdome which is one spot above Notre Dam Stadium. Are they on drugs? You choose: Evil Knieval crashing and breaking every bone in his body, Charlie Weiss with a ripped knee, or any single Super Bowl, NCAA basketball championship or BCS championship play. How about Bama's goal line stand against Penn State? They wimped out by making a tie of the Big House and the Horseshoe (Mich/OSU). ND more important than Lambeua?? Yeah and my high school gym is more important than the Staples Center. The Metrodome is #30?? The Metrodome!! Durham (minor league Bulls) Park, Gold's Gym, The Mall of America. A freaking mall????!!!!!! A mall is more important than Pauley Pavillon. :insane::insane: I am surprised this did not single-handedly kill Mr. Wooden, Mr. Walton. Mr. Abdul-Jabbar, Mr. Hazard and Reggie Miller in one fell swoop. Even Jackie Robinson and Denny Crum played in the place for their college years. Pauley could be in the Top 10 or 20 of any reasonable list. BALCO? What they couldn't find a good crystal meth, cocaine, or LSD lab. Or for that matter a pot farm or a good brewery? And NO Wimbledon? Truly nuts.
