36 years to be exact. I had just arrived in CO and back then I could pick up the signal from a 50k station in Shreveport. John Ferguson's call is one of the few things I recall as if it were yesterday.
OK, then. Bob Patrick was the replay "official" in question. He is an Alabama resident. 1. Where did he graduate from? Is he an Auburn donator? 2. Is the same replay "official" going to be "officiating" at this weekend's game?
1) I have no idea. That was the point of my initial post in this thread: The writer's claim is without citation or support. 2) Again, no clue.
Been hittin' the Makers Mark again, SabanFan? I merely commented on the Blogger's statement and provided you with factual information that the replay staff person in question was not an Auburn University "booster." If I state that the sky is not "red," do you then assume randomly assume it to be "green?" Remember, ..... "bloggers" like this one are not obligated to meet any journalistic standard. IMO, knowledgable readers understand that they should take blogger comments with a truckload of salt ....... :yelwink2:
i think you're forgetting the primary benefit to LSU ..... it wasn't that the spot gave them a first down, it was because it stopped the clock at a crucial, momentum-critical moment in the game. LSU would likely have converted the 4th down, but they certainly wouldn't have done it with the clock stopped.
If Tubby challenges the spot (which he should have) the clock stops anyway. It was definitely a bad spot, and helped LSU out a great deal. But on most bad spots, especially one that crucial, the opposing coach challenges the call. ESPECIALLY if it favors a team by near a yard and a half. My question to you is how can you bash the officials (and I agree completely that they blew it) for that one, but not call into question Auburn's coaching staff? Not a single guy in the booth radioed Tubby to say "Hey!! We just got phucked on that call."?? Another thing that nobody seems to bring up. A good 3 seconds ticked off the clock AFTER Byrd made that catch. 3 seconds may not sound like much, but it would have given AU a chance to run 1 play. As we all saw in Lexington back in '02, sometimes that's all you need.
You said: You did not say he wasn't a booster, only that he wasn't a big booster. I inferred that you knew who he was and that he was just a "regular" booster. If that's not right, I apologize for the misunderstanding.
