Ole Miss - Alabama 2007 "As it turns out, the game had no impact on the big picture in college football because both teams went on to an embarrassingly pathetic season" That was enjoyable to read.
The AU game had little to do with LSU advancing to the MNC, it was too early in the season. Look, "favorable ball placement" is a judgement call and a small thing. Two overt blown calls on national TV is very big and that's why it was a notoriously bad officiating job. Alumni are not allowed to referee a game with their school in the SEC. The replay "official" should be the same way. Else, blatant homerism will always be suspected if not clearly obvious. The uncalled pass interference was so blatant as to be shocking. Is the same "official" still working Auburn games?
Tennessee-Florida no pass interference should be top three. Ill give the guy a pass since he is a LSU fan.
Ah ok. It's been so long since I have been able to watch an LSU game, I can't remember what it's like!
That's Bull$hit! Auburn should be made to forfeit the game and lose several scholarships over this ... we need to raise holy hell about this crap. The replay official overturned the interference and gave the ball back to Auburn. It was later discovered that the replay official was not only an Auburn alumnus, but was also a big booster to the program. I guess that’s how he got the job. Nevertheless, this blatant home cooking cost LSU a chance to play for the SEC Championship and possibly a national title.
I'm certain that you are not trying to imply that a 3-loss LSU team would've advanced to the MNC, so I'll avoid the argument from the outset. Since the PI was uncalled, you seem to be saying that there was an organized conspiracy between the multiple officials on the field, the staff present in the replay booth, and the head of SEC Officials, who was also present that day...... Wow, I can only imagine how difficult it might be to arrange 5 or 6 people to look the other way all at the same time. The party that is negatively affected always sees the calls that go against them as a huge deal while erronious calls that go their way are considered "a small thing." It's the same everywhere and unfortunately bad calls are a part of the game. The replay booth official didn't make the call, the official on the field did and he was no more influenced by the replay booth than he was by his fellow field officials. Hell, the announcers couldn't even agree on it. Alumni routinely are involved with university sports. On field/on court officials generally recuse themselves if they are in any way affiliated with one of the teams in a particular game. What, .... you don't think LSU alumni are involved in the replay booth at Tiger Stadium, as clock-operators at LSU basketball games, as official scorers for LSU baseball? It happens everywhere, including at LSU. JMO, but whining about individual officiating mistakes is senseless and more focus should be placed on the root-cause instead of the symptoms. The SEC deserves better officiating and the only thing preventing it is the miserly approach that the University Presidents and thier lap-dog Mike Slive have taken to preserving the credibility of the game ...... if they fund it, it will improve. If they don't, it will only continue to get worse. Just my dos centavos ......
where did I defend it? ... I simply stated that the blogger was redundant. SabanFan, my opinion is well established on this incident and it happens to be the same as yours. Does that make you "stupid" too?
It would have been a 1 loss LSU which would have had it's shot at Florida in a rematch for the SEC CG, a game we certainly would have won. LSU would have beaten OSU like a drum two years in a row.
yep, sorry 'bout the way I phrased that .... I was referencing last season. An AU win would've meant a 3-loss season for LSU in '07. and I definitely agree with you about the pounding that LSU would've laid on the Luckeyes
