http://bleacherreport.com/articles/56838-the-top-10-worst-calls-of-the-bcs-era LSU-Auburn '05 is #2. "It was later discovered that the replay official was not only an Auburn alumnus, but was also a big booster to the program. I guess that’s how he got the job. Nevertheless, this blatant home cooking cost LSU a chance to play for the SEC Championship and possibly a national title."
Damn, I threw TWO beers at the wall after that call. Now knowing I want to toss a few more at the wall.
It was '06, not '05. As if you needed another reason to always pull for Auburn to lose... That's pretty appalling to learn that about the replay official. I would have assumed that measures would have been taken to avoid that kind of crap. I guess that's asking too much. Does anyone know if they monitor that stuff now? It makes replay practically irrelevant if they don't.
So everything is rigged these days, thats a damn shame that the replay official was in the tank for Auburn.
To be fair, the replay official only gets to decide whether or not the play should be reviewed. The referee is responsible for the decision on the actual outcome of the play.
Every time I see a play reviewed it's the replay official in the booth telling the referee what to call. The referee never even see's the replay.
We always knew. That's true. NFL refs check the replay but in college all they do is put on headphones.
redundant ...... all alumni of a program are considered Boosters under NCAA guidelines, and I can assure you he was not a "Big" booster by any stretch of the definition. ..... and I don't blame LSU fans for feeling upset over poor officiating .... AU fan's felt the same way after last season's screwing. Favorable ball-spots had a direct influence on the outcome ..... one that clearly allowed LSU to advance to the MNC this sword cuts both ways ....... blame the cheap-azz university presidents for not funding a credible Officiating program in the conference.
