Hell, Auburn had plenty of positive plays on first down, after first downs and also after incomplete passes. Their offense would have been successful no matter what. There offense is no more of a gimmick than any other and rules should not be put in place to stymie innovation. In my opinion changing the rules for this would be like saying teams can't go 5 wide or you can't have a 260 pound fullback. Defenses will adjust, just like they did vs the wishbone, veer, spread, etc.
