And when you get cancer you'll complain because the insurance company won't cover your pre-existing illness. Despite the Democrats' rhetoric, you cannot have it both ways.

Does your company offer a high deductible plan? If so, maybe you can work something out with them like them funding an HSA.

And you'd could save 8k by going to "catastrophic coverage only" whatever that is? How much are you paying and where can I get some of this catastrophic coverage that must be pretty damn cheap.

I thought you were saying you would prefer the premium dollars in your pocket.

Reading now where the dems will cap coverage. The fed is taking away the bread and butter from insurance companies and will leave folk hanging when it comes to catastrophic coverage. I cannot imagine what those premiums will run in the future.

I remember not so long ago when some felt the government's role would be to handle the catastrophic end of the business that was difficult for anyone to afford.

Senate health care bill to allow benefit caps, Democratic aides say - CNN.com

"We were very surprised by this," said Stephen Finan, the group's senior policy director. Finan worries that cancer patients, who often require expensive procedures, could still face major financial losses if annual coverage benefits are capped too low.

When asked if the language goes against one of the fundamental promises Democrats made in health care reform, Sen. Tom Harkin, chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, said it was "one of the compromises we had to make."

What??? Are you paying for employee only or employee and spouse, or employee and family? Either your insurance is way high or your "catastophic" is crazy low. You must be talking about a 10k or 25k deductible.

the total of my employer's and my contribution is about $800/month for self+family.

i had catastrophic a few years ago between jobs for self+family for $180/month. i think it was 5 k deductible. basically only covered hospitalization.
