silliness, gun free zones are what they are supposed to be in the context of education.
imagine a college campus where kids bring guns into the class, a place where free speech is encouraged and tempers flare, all the time.

So what you're saying is reasonable, law-abiding college students in reality have no self-control, and will willfully kill anyone who disagrees with them if they are allowed to freely carry guns?

straw man, its not about being law-abiding at all, the example being road rage, where people who are law-abiding citizens get angry and shoot and kill each other all the time. Its about temperament and having access while you are out of control with your emotions.

If you live in a school zone can you have a gun? I've always wondered what would happen if a guy's house got raided and they found drugs or guns in it, if he lives in a school zone.

I don't know if that has ever come up. I'm sure lots of gun owners live in school zones. I am only about 100 yards away from a school zone.

And of course lots of people drive past schools with guns in their vehicles. I do it almost every day.

You are right but I can't help but think that if people with concealed carry permits were allowed to carry in campus maybe the damage done by a wacko shooter might be lessened. To get a concealed permit you have to undergo a background check and permit holders tend to be responsible gun owners.

How often does a real mass murder get thwarted by a citizen with a gun? It's just a Die Hard fantasy.

More would if more people carried. Most of the mass shootings are in schools and movie theaters. Places we used to assume were safe.

First of all, how many happen where there are no guns present (other than the perp)? Secondly, most of those ARE ended by a gunshot.

LaSalle, in Louisiana you can't possess a gun within 1000 ft of a school; however, private property and/or a home within this distance is protected.

I recently worked at a school that was next to a rice field/crawfish lake. Friend of mine farmed it and would ride around in his truck and shoot shotgun at birds in crawfish lake. I used to LMAO and comment that in New York, for example, if people heard a gun shot near a school they'd be hitting the deck. Here we don't think twice about it.

It's not like there are literally NO guns on campuses. Probabtion officers that come to see kids, DARE officers, etc. all carry on campus. Also in Louisiana, the principal can authorize "someone" to carry. They can give permission to any employee, or person.

Check out LA R:S 14:95.2 Carrying a firearm, or dangerous weapon.
