Someone who is bent on killing multiple people in one sitting will give two sits less if they register their gun.
New York isn't in the top 10 cities with highest murder rate but there are still plenty of shootings there. http://nypost.com/2014/06/10/shootings-spike-in-nyc-over-the-last-year/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...ody-weekend-observation-towers_n_3381545.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...e-25-shot-in-48-hours-six-dead_n_3377809.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/02/new-york-city-gun-violenc_n_3533041.html
That ain't the point. Registration sets clear lines of responsibility and gives law enforcement a way to do what we all think needs to be done. Keep the guns out of the hands of felons, crazies, kids, and terrorists. There is absolutely no reason for a law abiding citizen to fear registration. It is a paranoid delusion that ignores US history and the Constitution to imagine that the government is trying to take guns away from citizens. They need to make citizens legally responsible for their guns just like their houses and boats.
I agreed in principle that we have nothing too fear, but in practice I don't. just about every country who has gun bans now, didn't at one time.
The Congressman Who Restricted Gun Violence Research Has Regrets Rep. Jay Dickey (R-Ark.) authored the controversial 1996 amendment that remains in place. He wishes Congress would change it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...e-research-amendment_561333d7e4b022a4ce5f45bf
Of course not, but the police would have a paper trail and the theft report would confirm that you no longer owned that weapon. You would have been a responsible owner from the time you registered it to the time you passed legal registration on to somebody else. It would help stop these people who by 125 assault rifles a day and sell them to gun runners and criminals.
New York is incredibly safe. I have lived here almost 15 years now and it's way safer than Baton Rouge. I dunno if that has anything to do with gun laws. Last week I was in Baton Rouge eating poboys at pastime, and I also tried to buy a rifle at academy sports to shoot beer cans with my pals. I could not do it because I did not have a local Id, I was bummed. Anyways, regarding shootings, there isn't really a solution.
There is not a solution. That does not mean that we can do nothing. Cutting the problem in half would be fantastic.
