ESPNU will show it starting at 11am Saturday

ESPN3 will have the rest: Wednesday through Saturday

"We certainly have the numbers and the kind of firepower we need to make a run at the title," LSU head coach Dennis Shaver said following Tuesday's training session.

LSU is the most decorated combined track and field program in the country winning 18 NCAA Outdoor Championships all-time between the men's and women's teams
    Men: 1933, 1989, 1990, 2002
    Women: 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2008

#2 LSU men's biggest competition for the National Title will be:

    #1 Texas A&M (3 National Titles: 2009, 2010, 2011)
#3 Arizona (never won a National Title)
#4 Texas (never won a National Title)
    #5 Florida State (3 National Titles: 2006, 2007, 2008)
#6 Florida (never won a National Title, Runner Ups: 2005, 2010)
    #7 Indiana (1 National Title: 1932)
#8 Virginia Tech (never won a National Title)
(note that LSU has 17 semifinalists this week, Virginia Tech has 14, and Florida State, Texas, and Texas A&M have 13 a piece ... the more semifinalists, the more opportunities to score points)

#1 LSU women's biggest competition for the National Title will be:

#2 Kansas (never won a National Title)
    #3 Oregon (1 National Title: 1985, Runner-ups: 2009, 2010, 2011)
    #4 Texas A&M (National Titles: 2009, 2010, 2011)
#5 Clemson (never won a National Title)
    #6 Texas (4 National Titles: 1986, 1998, 1999, 2005)
#7 Stanford (never won a National Title)
(note that Oregon has 18 semifinalists this week, LSU had 16, Stanford has 15, and Texas has 14... the more semifinalists, the more opportunities to score points)

The LSU Men haven been the most consistent men's team in the nation over the past 12 seasons, with 11 top-five finishes at the NCAA Outdoor meet over the past 12 seasons. That includes runner-up finishes in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and third-place finishes in 2004 and 2005.

The Lady Tigers have finished outside the top seven in the team standings just once during the last 12 years.

under former LSU coach Pat Henry (who was LSU coach from 1988-2004), the Texas A&M Aggies have swept the men's and women's national titles in three-straight seasons at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with their performance in 2009, 2010 and 2011

Why did Pat Henry leave LSU for A&M? It's not like A&M is a step up. If anything, it's a lateral move, at best, or even a step back. Was he just looking for a new challenge or did they offer him more money then LSU was willing to pay?

Texas A&M built him brand-new elite, top of the line facilities, while LSU didn't

This was the same time Skip was doing his this with Baseball too. Skip was getting the headlines (deservedly) and Pat was second fiddle. Pat also came from Blinn which is close to A&M. A combination of circumstances that caused us to lose a perhaps legendary track coack.

....The UO women enter the four-day meet as slight favorites over LSU, according to the NCAA form chart compiled by Track & Field News analyst Jack Pfeifer. He projects the Ducks with 72 points, followed by the the Tigers at 68, Kansas third at 51 and Texas A&M fourth at 41....
    ----------------------

Oregon Women have their deepest team ever. Throughout the years, sprints and jumps have always been the Ducks weakness. This year, English Gardner, a sprinter, could put the Ducks over the top. LSU looks wicked strong in the short races though, I think it is going to be very close.

Duck Men are too young, with too many points graduated, 7th place if they perform well. I know little about LSU or the rest of the competition.

FYI, In Eugene, (Track Town USA), track-meets pull in 7,000 to 11,000 rabid fans who happily stand in the rain. Oregon Track and Field is far bigger than baseball,..it's kinda crazy/weird popular.

Pat Henry is hugely respected here, we Duck fans consider him the only coach on the same level as our own Coach Vin Lananna. I didn't know he coached at LSU, he's kicked Oregon's ass, men and women, three years in a row.

Lastly, a reminder that,.. the USA Olympic Track and Field Trials are being held from June 21st to July 1 in good ol Duckville.
    .

    Good luck Tigers

    Go Ducks

I thought it was that a womens basketball coach got a huge contract and Skip Bertman and Pat Henry had battles before Skip was AD and the 'love' carried over.
