It's the main reason college teams went to "dual threat" quarterbacks like high schools have always done. Big, smart, accurate drop-back passers just don't come along every day. Key word is "smart". Mauck and Flynn won us national championships with average athletic skills because they had brainpower and a work ethic. Lee, Jefferson, Jennings and Harris, have been athletic but kind of lacking in mental agility. Perilloux was talented, but lacking in maturity and character.

I will agree with you that finding a guy with an arm and some speed does't seem to be that hard. However, situational awareness, quick thinking, keen perception, maturity, and leadership are far more vital. Add the kind of character that results in working hard, studying film, making grades, and keeping out of trouble and those are the qualities that we need to be seeking in a quarterback. Those virtues are harder than hell to find in a guy who also has an accurate arm and mobility. And they can be awfully hard to assess in a young high school quarterback. There is a lot more luck in recruiting than is commonly recognized.

Top caliber? Who said anything about top caliber? Below average would be great! Anything better than flat out sucks would be an improvement.

There are about 110 division one schools that would trade with LSU any day. LSU has one of the best records of the 21st century, did you forget that?

Record, revenue, fan base, all that shit yep, QB not a chance in hell. Okie lite burned the red shirt on a kid for the last 2 games that is light years better than anything we have run out there the last 2 years.
