West Monroe football player D.J. Banks did not arrive in New Orleans Thursday intent on casting his lot with the Tulane Green Wave. But the most productive unofficial visit of the Bob Toledo era produced just that, a verbal commitment from one of the state's top seniors.

"I didn't come down here thinking that I was going to commit,'' said Banks, whose initials stand for Don Jr. "It just kind of happened. I was just going on an unofficial visit to see (Tulane) and I ended up committing. I really liked what I saw. So I thought why not?''

Banks also is Tulane's third Louisiana commitment and projects as a full qualifier with a 3.93 grade-point-average in honors curriculum and a 22 on the ACT.

Banks had official offers from Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette. His other unofficial visits this summer were to USM, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.

"Of course, (Tulane is) a very prestigious university,'' Banks said. "It's a place I can go and be very successful in the class room. I can get a degree from there and be set for life. It's also a place I can go and get on the field right away if I work hard. My parents can come and watch me play.''

Good for DJ. Maybe he can have a career similar to what Shaun King had at Tulane...

I thought he would have been recruited a little harder but he didn't have a big junior year. Would have rather seen him at LaTech though.

I hope he does good a Tulane and has a great career.

He's a junior and his drop off in production can be attributed to the fact he is playing new positions rather than playing with "the big dogs". He is adjusting just fine IMO.
For the question of will he be a Tiger? Not so sure I would count on that happening (based on his size), but if you want a diamond in the rough...keep an eye out for Barkavious Mingo...he is going to be a stud.
