She was attempting to 'Gospelize' like many Black woman singers have done in the past dragging out words for no reason. Usually indicates the singer is unable to sing the crisp, clean & clear vocals. "Free" is a 1 syllable word not 2 or 3 syllabals.
Hendrix played an instumental at Woodstock, in front of a ton of muddy, drunk and acid dropping hippies. He was not on national television. I liked it, plus he was part of the 101st Airborne before he became a rock star.
