2018 OC

Personally, I applied to numerous top notch medical schools, and didn't even get looked at. Didn't have comparable qualifications to be considered. I had some personal connections to Tulane and was able to at least get an interview. Once I got a foot in the door, I was able to convince them I could excel at a top school. They got to know me, believed in me, and gave me a chance. 20+ years later, I've had a very successful career, caring for tens of thousands of patients, and had a 7 year fulfilling military stint, too. None of that would have been possible if they didn't interview me, listen, get to know me, and give me a chance. I've become a considerable booster to them for that chance. Sometimes you need inner connections to just get that opportunity. No reason for anyone else to look at, or offer, Oeaux (or Ensminger), but that doesn't mean he won't succeed. Some people just need an opportunity and a platform to succeed (variables may not have flowed right for him at Ole Piss). Hopefully, it falls into place for him now that he is getting more autonomy to call the shots the way he wants too. Same applies to Ensminger. He may be a diamond in the rough that only someone like Oeaux can recognize. The variables for success just may not have been in place for E at his prior OC stops, then he got complacent and just wanted stability (family needs/stresses/demands can do that). Even Lou Tepper is succeeding at Buffalo Bills right now. Based on his LSU stint, who would have thought he would still be coaching, much less becoming a DC of a playoff NFL team?

I understand all of the negative talk about our coaches, but successful people quell the background noise, believe in themselves and push on. Patience and positivity breeds success. I'll wait for results before pushing the panic button.

Good for you. Some people just look at the record and think once a failure always a failure. Thomas Edison failed over 100 times trying to invent the light bulb before he got it right. What if he had listened to the naysayers and said fuck it. I'll just light a candle.

We may be only 2 of the few who hasn't pre judged Oeaux and willing to give him those 3-4 tears most all coaches get. Lot of O haters here dont understand it.

This is what sticks out to me in this article:

“But what you need to do is you need to get out and interview; every time you have an opening, you need to get to know people. That’s how Dave Aranda ends up at LSU.”

Miles hired Aranda from Wisconsin after Kevin Steele’s departure following the 2014 season. The two first spoke about the job before Steele accepted it in 2014.

“I could have hired Steele with my eyes closed,” Miles said. “But if I don’t go out and see a bunch of guys, I’m not going to know it.”

Miles stressed the importance of taking “the opportunity to interview and see people from different teams, from backgrounds that you don’t have.”

Well, his hiring philosophy seems a sound one, and Miles was clearly right to have hired Aranda. Probably his best hire ever. However, his hires on the offensive side of the ball are where his problems lied.

Ensminger probably rejected Miles offer because he knew he would just be a figurehead running the plays that Miles told him to run. Oeuax trusts him so maybe he will have autonomy over the playbook.
