Zook, fired after three seasons as Steve Spurrier's successor at Florida, acknowledged a different level of expectations at Illinois than his previous job. "I think that's probably good," he said. "I think [at Florida] the expectations were a little out of sync from where we were talent-wise. I think there's a chance that our talent level [at Illinois] may be a little bit better than the expectations."
talent actually had fallen a lot. the proof is in the draft. channing crowder was their only guy picked on day 1. longest ever since 1996 and only one player selected. unreal for any team in florida, much less gainesville.
zook got a raw deal man... i mean I dont think he's good, but shoot, he lost three games his first season and there was a website dedicated to his demise.
Gator fans are a bunch of spoiled rotten punks with that one NC they got under Spurrier. I thought he was a decent coach all the while putting up with all that BS from Gator fans.
I can't think of a single coach who could have followed Spurrier and made the fans happy. Zook was the first guy on the beach... and they shot him. Let Urban lose a game or two, especially one to South Carolina, and he'll be getting a "firethepope.com" website, too.
I think it's typical of any school of Florida's size and caliber to have higher expectations after winning a NC. Look at what happened here. We won it and then the next season, Saban got booed after a lackluster game...
