I didnt realize how hard of a time Zinger has had with his illness, good to see him back to form. He showed some serious dedication to gain all that weight back.

Keith Zinger is playing football again, but more importantly he's back to normal.

Last spring, doctors could not at first figure out what was wrong with him. He could not hold anything in his stomach, lost 50 pounds to 219 and was very weak.

"I couldn't really eat anything," Zinger said. "My weight hadn't been that low since I was a freshman in high school."

Zinger, who was one of the nation's top tight ends out of Leesville High in 2003, was diagnosed with a rare disease called ulcerative colitis, which is inflammation in the intestine and colon. Only one in 10,000 Americans get the disease.

Zinger, who played in 13 games as a true freshman in 2003, got some stronger medicine for the illness, received a medical hardship from the NCAA and will be a fifth-year senior next season. He reported to spring practice on Monday back up to 270 pounds.

With strong-armed quarterback JaMarcus Russell gone, Crowton has said LSU will likely rely more on the run next season.

"We'll be basically a two-back running team," Crowton said. "We'll have the ability to do both, but that will probably be our bread and butter. I've always been multiple. I've always tried to use the tight ends a little bit or a fullback if we didn't have the third tight end. We could go two tight ends and a back."

I don't think that just because we're going to have a new QB that we need to rely on the run. We have enough talent to pass the ball MORE than effectively.

I believe we'll have the ability to do both. A great run game like I expect us to have, will open up the passing game too.

I think our team will be more dynamic next year and we will now be able to mix it up. Last year we had to setup the run with the pass the last half of the season but next year we should be able to keep defenses off balance with the ability to setup with run with pass and the other way around.
