Well since the bashers are back in their hole again after the basketball team turned around their fortunes against Arkansas, I felt obligated to post the firecoachk.com website for your enjoyment. The dukies are a miserable 5-5 in league play with tough road tests still remaining. Three coaches that most LSU fans would give their left nad for Bobby Knight, Coach K , and Rickie P are a collective 16-15 in their respective conferences this year and are in danger of not making postseason play. My tounge in cheek remarks are to bring to the point it is very difficult to stay on top in college basketball these days on a consistant basis. Recruiting is dirtier than ever and as I have said on numberous times in this forum it is hard to get depth on a team. Why is this you ask? Kids that are superstars in high school expect to play immediately. So if you happen to have a player on your team that might be a soph, junior or senior that the prospective recruit thinks could play in front of them, you will not get that player. College basketball is merely a place to play ball to impress scouts on their way to the NBA. Sad but true, this is the case. There are only a handful of basketball programs that kids will go and sit on the bench and wait out playing time. Most of these kids are not aspiring NBA'ers either. Lastly, if you watched the KY Fla game Saturday night, it was a thing of beauty watching Florida. The way they pass the ball around and are not"selfish.".. there is a word that is paramount in college bball... anyhow, they just about blew it in the end with some dumb plays ie... Noah fouling a man shooting a 3 with a 6 point lead with 1 minute remaining.. I am sure Billy D teaches his kids to do that.. (sounds familiar doesnt it)...Everyone on their team has a role and each of them relishes it.. It reminds me of the old UCLA and UNC teams that just enjoyed playing basketball with each other.. I just wish the college game would return to players that played for the name on the front of their jersey instead of the one on the back.
Losing 4 in a row will do that...no matter how many Championships you have. Just shows that you can't stay at the top every season. Better teams have gone from the penthouse one season to the outhouse the next. The thing is you have to endure a few bad along with the good. If the complete work begins to fall below a certain point then you can begin to worry about where a program is going. To bring everything into perspective look at the overall odds of any given team making it to the Final Four. That will show you how tough it really is to compete today
bashing coach brady and bashing coach K aren't even in the same league. i stand by my evaluation of brady. if he has players like d-mitch-thomas-and big baby, we'll be good every year. if not, we'll have a year like this...
I won't disagree with a thing here. Very well posted. (Although, I do think Duke is 5-6 in ACC play) EDIT after looking at it...18-7 / 5-6 with a 14 RPI. <- that may change. It's crazy looking at teams around the NCAA that are on the "bubble" right now. You've mentioned a few...and here's a few more I've heard/read about in the last couple of weeks. Some solid programs and coaches here... Connecticut Duke Gonzaga Maryland Notre Dame Stanford Syracuse Texas Texas Tech Villanova
There is a good chance Duke and some of those other teams will make the NCAAs. There is a good chance LSU won't. To barely make the NCAAs in a slump year is better than maybe missing out on the NITs. I haven't been nor am I calling for Brady's head this season, but Brady hasn't definitively shown that he's running a top 50 program. I agree that winning in college basketball is harder than ever, but I'm curious to find out if we are paying top 50 money. I'd say we're on the cusp of being top 50, but this season has been a set back.
I watched Duke for the first time this season during the UNC game. Their team is a bunch of midgets! I had never watched Duke before and thought that I didn't see a single player who is NBA material. McRoberts is a stiff. They'll be fine, but they're two years away.
you missed the tounge in cheek part of my post... Dukie fans have better things to do than to banter about how a coach should be fired based on one game or one season. Comparing Coach K to CJB is not what I was trying to point out because there is no comparison... except CJB is 1-0 against him in the Sweet 16... of which Coach K had the best talent in the NCAA according to Dickie V.. ahhh yeah... they will be cutting down the nets in Indy he ranted and raved about.... how short the memory is of the bashers...
the only problem K has is that he hasn't gotten top stars recently paulus, mcroberts, dockery, nelson are all extremely AVERAGE in terms of athleticism. i think the scheyer kid has potential... it says a lot about K that he can compete with a team like UNC with the above roster. they will be out-athleted by just about every single team that they play against... as they were against LSU last year.
