Wow, it's getting really bad at ULL

Check this out from ESPN about problems at ULL...

Women football fans of the Ragin' Cajuns had a good reason to make sure they showed up early to Thursday's night matchup between their 0-7 University of Louisiana-Lafayette team and 1-6 New Mexico State Aggies.

There was a $3,800 diamond at stake.

In an effort to help boost attendance numbers to the battle for the cellar of the Sun Belt Conference matchup, the ULL athletics department partnered up with a local jewelry store. One of the first 500 women that went through the turnstiles would receive a diamond, with the 499 others receiving the imitation -- cubic zirconias.

It's a promotion you'd likely never see at Penn State, Tennessee, Oklahoma or USC. After all, gimmicks like these are for schools whose alumni base can't fill their stadiums regardless of the team's record. And there's plenty of marketing creativity taking place among those schools that really have to work to fill the seats -- especially for those that find themselves to be frequent members of ESPN.com's Bottom 10 list every week.

It's hard to sell just the football in Lafayette these days. Not only is the team's performance lacking luster, but the opponents that they play at home aren't too hot either. The Ragin' Cajuns are at the end of a three-game homestand in which their opponents -- Louisiana-Monroe, New Mexico State and Idaho -- have combined to win just two games. The team knocked off New Mexico State on Thursday night in front of a crowd of just over 12,000 fans.

"Our biggest competition for the entertainment dollar here is festivals and hunting," says Daryl Cetnar, ULL's sports information director. "There are more than 100 festivals taking place, from frogs to rice to omelets, and everyone owns cabins out in the woods and knows when duck hunting season is."

Does that mean that Diamonds are a Rajin' Cajun's best friend?

And Tiger fans don't have cabins in the woods and know when duck season is?
