So I find myself flying by another lame ESPN show where newspaper columnists sit and debate each other on a variety of sports topics this afternoon. (1st & 10 is the name of this show. It was shot on the "Cold Pizza" set so go figure.) While I'm sitting in front of my set wondering how many times this formula can be recycled, I hear the referee, er host, mention my favorite college football program (LSU natch !) in the same sentence as Houston Nutt. Columnist #1 Skip Bayless (he of the dearth of credibility and other foibles we won't discuss here) said that this would be an excellent hire and that his "sources" tell him that Saban has recommended this fine football coach as his successor. (Yea Skip, whatever !?!) Enter Columnist #2: Longtime Denver Blowhard Woody Paige concurs with Skip"s "outstanding" analysis and then proves his utter ignorance by spewing out this sentence: "it seems now that Arkansas would be a stepping stone for a coach to go to LSU, when not too long ago LSU would have been the stepping stone to get to Arkansas." What ??? No offense to Arkansas, I recognize their storied history. And their have certainly been years when the Hogs fielded a better team (and sometimes MUCH better) than the Tigers. But as a football program, LSU has NEVER, EVER, been anything close to a "stepping stone" to Arkansas. In fact, I doubt that LSU has been a stepping stone to any college coaching job. I would invite Mr. Paige to compare LSU's facilities and recruiting base with UA and maybe WATCH AN SEC GAME before he comments on any other LSU related topics in ther future. Congratulations Woodrow !!! You know less than Trev Alberts !!!!
How woody pecker paige makes a living doing anything related to sports is a complete mystery. He has to be the biggest idiot in all of sports media.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I actually like Skip Bayless - but for one reason and one reason only. Last year, while working for the San Jose Mercury news, he wrote a column explaining that LSU was the true National Champion and why they would beat USC head to head. Not bad for a West Coast news columnist. But Skip has always thrived on creating controversy and I'm sure his article served that part of his agenda. But, who cares? He was right for a change.
I'm pretty sure Woody was born and raised in Arkansas so that's a solid foundation for his stupidity. I (along with most other CO sports fans) breathed a huge sigh of relief when ESPN took him off our hands.
I did consider easing up on Skip for his "moment of clarity" one year ago. But it's tough after seeing his work here in DFW for so many years.
I certainly agree with you that LSU was never and never will be a stepping stone for Arkansas, but I love watching Woody on Around the Horn and on Cold Pizza. He can make some asinine comments at times, but his stupidity, goofy comments and antics crack me up at times. :hihi:
The name of the show is Cold Pizza. 1st and 10 is just a segment of it. Watch Woody and Skip on Cold Pizza's 1st and 10 at 4:00pm ET on ESPN starting December 1st
Trust me, he'll begin to wear on you. He's a first class, know-it-all jerk who thinks he's Grantland Rice reincarnated. Other than that, he's an all right guy
Well I've been watching him for as long as he's been on TV (since Around the Horn first aired) and I still love his goofy comments. It must be love!
