Clayton, Lavalais, Hunt....and with an uncertain QB situation... Will next year officially be a (gasp) rebuilding year?
Neg...hopefully Spears and Hill stays and with Webster staying we will still have the country's best D
This isn't like the old days....when players like this meant LSU was forced to rebuild. This is the most depth, and I am talking QUALITY depth that LSU has ever fielded. LSU will repeat as the nation's #1 defense now that Webster and Spears have decided to stay. Jimbo will have to alter his approach somewhat with the new freshman taking over at QB. He won't try to make these kids do too much. LSU will rely on a potent running game to set up the pass.
We will still have a great defense, and I actually look for our offense to improve with what will still be a solid offensive line and great backs. Our receivers and quarterback spots will need to get some time together, but I think by the end of the year, the group will be even better than the group this year.
It's not like LSU was a dominant passing team last year, despite the NFL caliber recievers we had. As long as our guys don't make the really stupid mistakes *coughbrockberlincough* and shoot our offense in the foot, we should be just fine. We go four deep in running backs and we should have a plethora of recieving options for whoever steps it. It's Jimbo's job to get these guys on the same page. By the time we get on our SEC road trip, the machine should be rolling.
I think this is the best possible time to be breaking in Russell and Flynn. We have a running game and defense that can bail him out if he makes some mistakes. I'd rather have him in there to make those mistakes early next season as opposed to when he is a sophomore.
