I'm a hardworking middle class person. I also know I don't make as much as a lot of the people in the private sector unions, and there is no way in hell I want them speaking for me.

I don't have any major problems with them, but I don't need anyone telling me who needs to speak for me on my behalf. I can voice my own opinions or decide who I want to voice them for me all on my own.

    1. Public unions will not die without collective bargaining, that's just nonsense. I've been a member of public unions for over 20 years and not one of them had collective bargaining rights- by that I mean an employment contract between the union and employer (ie taxpayer), My union does not enjoy collective bargaining with the city but we do fine without it. In my twelve years in this union, mayors and city councils have worked well with the union. Civil service employees especially don't need it because many of the employee protections that unions seek are encoded in civil service laws.

    2. Someone commented that fireman and police vote Republican while teachers and other union members don't. They failed to backup that claim with any documentation but I can tell you as a member of IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) that the IAFF, and its local affiliates, supports Democratic candidates almost exclusively. Perhaps the Gov Walker exempted fire and police because they make less than teachers and, as I do, already pay into their pensions and out of pocket toward their health insurance premiums. Who knows? But I can assure you the WI IAFF affiliates supported Obama in 2008.

    3. I also have first hand experience with the UAW and that truly is a union out of control.

Scott Walker ran and was elected on his promise to save the state from imminent financial disaster. 70% of personnel costs are on pensions and benefits. The simple fact is that they don't have any money and can't afford to continue down that road. Walker asked for concessions while maintaining their right to wage collective bargaining.

The unions and their toadies (mainstream media) have made this a union busting issue and it's not that at all. Walker is doing what he was elected to do.

that's bullchit, if he would have mentioned that his plans were to go after teachers and correctional officers, he wouldn't have been elected. It's that simple. Those unions and workers conceded their benefits, and pensions, but now they have their bargaining rights stripped. THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BUDGET. Wake up dude.

Was that from the opening of Southpark?

Walker's only agenda is to save the state from fiscal ruin. There's no insidious plot to ruin unions and render thousands of people unemployed. What should he do? Ignore the biggest drain on the state's finances and just close a few rest stops and state parks?

Dude, even your boy Shepard Smith from "fair and balanced" Faux news said this was purely an attack on the unions. This had nothing to do with the budget. The workers conceded, this is an attempt to kill the unions.

SHEP SMITH: The Koch Brothers Are Behind Gov. Attempt To Bust Unions

At least one person over at Fox is paying attention.

Bull. The unions had already accepted all the conditons he wanted. The fight is over his not wanting to deduct dues from paychecks (if we did that with taxes, how long would the goverment last?), wanting to have to force the union to re-certify with an election every year, and wanting to limit them to being able to only negiotate wages, and only for a maximum of cost of living (what if their med. insurance premiums went up faster?)

That's what it's about, no matter how much you, Hannity, Beck, and Limbaugh and the rest of the right wingers ignore that fact.

Plus, I thought you con's thought a contract was sacred?

Concessions is not "busting". They can go ahead with the staus quo and eventually there will be no jobs to protect. Unions also need to quit being oversized PACs.

This is going to be a universal problem. Everybody wants something done but aways NIMBY.
