right, and in this previous discussion current LSU players who took some snaps their fresh year were granted medical redshirts for no "medical" reason
http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?t=42549&highlight=redshirt Medical Hardship Waiver: This waiver allows a student-athlete to be granted an additional season of competition when he/she has participated in competition during a given year but subsequently suffers a season-ending injury. A student-athlete may qualify for this waiver when he/she has participated in 20% or less of his/her team's competitive events for the season (e.g., 3 games of an 11 game football schedule), his/her participation occurred only during the first half of the season and he/she suffered a season ending injury. These waivers may not be officially requested and granted until the completion of the season in which the student-athlete was injured. NCAA Rule 14.2.4 Criteria for Medical Hardship Quote: A student-athlete may be granted an additional season of eligibility by the conference for reasons of “hardship”. Hardship is defined as an incapacity resulting from an injury or illness that has occurred under all of the following conditions: 1) The incapacitating injury or illness occurs in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition at any two-year or four year collegiate institution; and 2) The injury or illness occurs prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship (measured by the number of scheduled contest or dates of competition not exceeding the maximum limitations as set prior to the first scheduled contest/date of competition of the official designated playing season) and results in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and 3) The injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests or dates of competition (whichever is applicable to that sport) or 20 percent (whichever number is greater) of the institution's scheduled contests or dates of competition in his or her sport. Only scheduled competition (including exempted events except for scrimmages and exhibition contests identified as such in the legislation) against outside participants during the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship, or, if so designated, during the official NCAA championship playing season in that sport (e.g., spring baseball, fall soccer), shall be countable under this limitation in calculating both the number of contests or dates of competition in which the student-athlete has participated and the number of scheduled contests or dates of competition during that season in the sport. Someone in the past discussion said this
Well it has to be medical but the NCAA doesn't investigate and leaves it up to the school to decide if a player is injured or not. I find it hard to believe that almost half of every teams freshman class is hurt each year:wink: . The one and done statement is just words on paper and means absolutely nothing with the way teams use the redshirt.
macatak911, I stand corrected. Obviously I didn't read the thread close enough to note the discussion was on medical redshirts. That or the vision is still clouded by the beverages consumed Saturday afternoon/evening
right....im sure those doctors from Student Health Services would be glad to stamp their approval on any medical "issue" :thumb: anyone got an idea if any of our freshman RB's have played more than 3?
Another avenue for a med-red is to get drunk, beat the crap out of someone, then claim you need (and get) one while you get your head on straight. After all, it's been done before!
Supposedly, they are enforcing the medical redshirt rule very strictly now & they are not easy to come by. I've heard that Keiland's old coach has kept in contact with him & has said that he'll get more playing time when he learns the playbook, so we may see him play more later in the season. Also, according to DD Scott had a concussion & this is why he didn't play vs UF. PS: Scott wasn't a 5 star recruit. People's memory always gets fuzy & 4 or 3 star recruits suddenly become 5 star when they have some success.
Scott can't get a medical since he has played in more than 20% our games. Williams has played in 3 games and it is now said that he has an ankle injury. I expect we won't be seeing him anymore this season and he'll get a medical.
This what really pisses me off. You have two guys in JV and AB they did nothing against Tulane and MSU but Scott shined bright in the same games. AB and JV have been terrible behind this O-line, don't hit the holes hard, are timid, and can't get around the ends into the open. Scott performed better behind the same O-line and hits hard and has more speed to get around the end if he has too. Why in the hell is Miles going to waste his redshirt against the likes of MSU and Tulane and not play him when we need him most!!! He performed really well in those two games leading up to the UF game, so why waste his redshirt if he is going to be used in games we don't really need him?? Was Scott hurt this weekend? That would be the only reason I could see him holding Scott on the sidelines.
