I, for one, think your staff did a great job this year, if for no other reason; they kept this team together through what had to be one of the most adverse seasons in history. X's and O's don't matter if the team succumbs to the physical and mental challenges that this team faced. Though most poaching doesn't happen until after signing day, I don't see anything that is open or will be opening that would attract Bo or Jimbo at the college level. Do you see any other possible openings not mentioned below?http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/coaching_changes.html COACHING CHANGES FOR 2006 SEASON TEAMOUTINBoise StateDan HawkinsChris PetersenBuffaloJim HofherTurner GillColoradoGary BarnettDan HawkinsKansas StateBill SnyderRon PrinceMiddle TennesseeAndy McCollumRick StockstillRiceKen Hatfield?San Diego StateTom CraftChuck LongTempleBobby WallaceAl GoldenWisconsinBarry AlvarezBret Bielema On the other hand, many Pro head jobs will open up, creating numerous opportunities for new blood to enter. staffs. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5210434 ROUND AND ROUND IT GOES: Monday is Black Monday in the NFL as teams drop the hammer on many coaches on the hot seat. Although we believe there will be eight openings, there could be as many as 10 job vacancies. We already know that Houston, Detroit, St. Louis, Kansas City are locks for new coaches. Then we've got the strong possibility of Minnesota, New Orleans, Green Bay and Oakland. Believe it or not, San Diego has been discussed and there is rampant speculation regarding Denny Green's future in the desert. In fact, several of his players and assistant coaches have heard the rumors that the team will try to force Green to fire his top assistants and confidantes, most notably Jerry Solomon. If they attempt this move, Green would likely refuse and then could be gone. If these rumors are not true, Green needs to address them with his locker room and staff immediately. However, if true he could be another man on the chopping block. Do you think everyone stays put for one more year, or do you see something that might be attractive for a coach on the rise? The Peach Bowl certainly raised the profile of your staff.
yeah i think the staff will remain in tact but its probably the last year....after nexr year i could see both bo and jimbo leaving for head coaching jobs.
I think Pelini has a good shot at a HC job. If Jimbo's offense next year looks like the Peach Bowl version, he will finally get a HC gig. If it looks like the pre-PB version, he'll remain a bridesmaid in the coaching sweepstakes.
Unlike fans, potential coaching employers know that a bad coach doesn't become a good coach overnight and vice-versa. Jimbo did what he had to do to win with what he had this year. When you factor everything in, 11 wins out of 13 games played looks pretty damn good on his resume. When you look at his overall record at LSU, he stacks up with any other non-head coach in college football.
We will lose a couple position guys for sure. It happens every year. Those guys move around like crazy hoping for a big break and earning experience.
I am really hoping we keep Bo and Dunbar for a couple of more seasons and I would like for Dunbar to be able to take over as DC whenever Bo leaves.
Jimbo & Pelini are both looking for head coaching positions - they'll be here until something that suits them opens up. It may be tough to judge, but from a fan's perspective - it certainly looks like we could improve our WR coach.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jimbo leaves after next season. I know he's wanted a head coaching job for a long time now...and with an head coach with an offensive background, he might not get as much noteriety as he was getting under a head coach with a defensive background. Just a gut feeling, but I think Pelini is gonna be with us for at least 2 more seasons. I think it's safe to say that it took our defense roughly till mid-season before they really started "getting" Pelini's scheme. Once the bowl game rolled around, it's pretty obvious that they had it down pat. I think Bo wants one more season to prove that his scheme is just as effective as Saban's was (even though they go about it different ways, the end result is comparible). So, I think Pelini will want a full year or two to prove his mettle--and the only way to do that is by year 3 here, when the vast majority of the players are his own recruits.
