To score the Michigan job when it comes available? I know you guys don't want to hear it and the truth hurts and all that stuff. Mark my words that Les will have success at LSU, but will bolt for the Wolverines HC job as soon as they start calling and Miles will be making a name for himself at about that time off of Nicks talent. Say what you want nay Sayers, the writing is on the wall. This will take place in 2-3 yrs or as soon as Michigan wants him. Maybe Nick will come back as LSU AD after his failed stint as head coach in the NFL (a la Spurrier). I just don't want Les to use LSU like a stepping-stone like Saban did.
Guess what....coaches use jobs as stepping stones to their dream jobs. Just like every other person on this planet does every day. It is human nature, get over it. Now that that is out of the way.... You don't know that Miles is looking to go to Michigan. It is a sad commentary on our program and our fans when we just automatically assume that any coach who comes here is just looking to leave for bigger and better ASAP. It shows that we don't think very highly of ourselves. No wonder this state is in the hole that it's in.
Who would you rather have? A coach that comes and stays five years, averages 9.7 wins a season and leaves for a dream job (Saban) . . . or a coach that stays five years, averages 6.7 wins a season and gets fired (Dinardo, Hallman, Archer). Coaches just don't come to a school and stay 25 years, get real. Far better for LSU to catch an up-and-coming head coach on the way up (Miles) than get a mediocre coach who is happy to stay for 25 years, if he's allowed (Tuberville).
Just like DiNardo and Notre Dame? or was DiNardo's dream job head coach in the XFL? Or was it Indiana? We'd be too lucky to have Les win like Nick. Let's see the guy win a few games first before we discuss him leaving.
As suggested by the other posts, the only way he gets that job is if he is fabulously successful here. He won't leave because of the money; you know we'll pay. He would be leaving because he would like to go home, and I can't begrudge him that. Like Saban's tenure, it's a trade I'd make.
I hope that when the time comes for Michigan to replace its head coach that Les Miles is the Wolverines' TOP priority because that'll mean he's been successful at LSU. And if he leaves for his dream job than so be it, one man is not bigger than LSU. Also, I would find it very peculiar if Miles, who played for Bo Schembechler at Michigan, didn't consider coaching the Wolverines his dream job. Heck, how many people ever get the chance to do something they've always dreamed of, much less working in a "dream job"? I know I always wanted to play football for LSU and run out of that Tiger Stadium tunnel, but there was no roster spot for a 5-9, 170 pound, slow, lightly skilled, no talent, white boy. I had to settle for walking through it after the team ran out while I was working in the athletic department.
Red what’s wrong w/having a long-term winner? It doesn’t have to be either or. CLM should have respect for LSU. If the Michigan job comes up, he should tell them to take a hike. How long do you give Saban b/4 he is gone from Miami?
