Why is the Tiger mascot named Mike?

    Somebody at work asked me this question. I told him I don't know, but I knew where I could find the answer. Thanks in advance.

    i know this one.....i saw an artical on it the other day, but i cannot remember the persons last name.

    Mike was named after somebody after they died, i think it was the origanl keeper of the first Mike.

    Edit: Khounba beat me too it.
