I have a question about other state schools and anybody's opinion on the matter. I was once a huge LSU fan, and since have changed my allegiance for reasons that need not be mentioned. But I was wondering what the Tiger Nation thinks about the situation about other schools in Louisiana. With all the conference shakeup that is going on all the in state schools are facing some big changes. Many will be left out and others will be put in rather difficult situations. The just of my question is why hasn't LSU formed any kind of rivalry with an in state school that has helped it propel another university to another level. Or why do other states have more than one big university and Louisiana is only able to support one. Would LSU benefit from another or are there no benifits at all. The best example I can think of is Colorado-Colorado State. That is a game that is always on ESPN in the begining of the season, or is it better to schedule Utah State and just play at home with no TV. I am a fan of another Louisiana school and want to know why Louisiana has not been able to have a Florida-Florida State, Virginia-Virginia Tech, or Oklahoma-Oklahoma State. This just seems to make sense that it would benifit alot more people in the state if this were the case. I know a majority of you will not agree with me and I would really like educated answers, and not " cause you suck" type responses. Thanks for allowing me to post Tigers. Good luck this week.
The difference with Colorado-Colorado St is that one is in the big 12 and the other is at least in the Mountain West. It's a great game every year and is competitive. Plus, both are the states flagship school. Here, the next biggest football team in La is, I would say, either Tech or Tulane and neither of those would be competitive games year in year out. Our game with Auburn is competitve so it gets peoples juices going. If ULL, for example, were to, all of a sudden, start getting top 25 recruiting classes and became competitive...it might be different. But people just don't get psyched up for whooping up on ULL than they do on an intense battle with Auburn or Alabama. Plus, LSU is the flagship public university of La. Not to offend you or anyone else, but LSU is the most notable public school in LA. and that helps...esp. when it comes to getting put on TV or getting talked about. Thats why we are on CBS 3 times a year, ESPN 8 times a year, and get talked about by every sports analyst around. No one else in LA gets that week in and week out....If we started scheduling more Louisiana teams over Va. Tech or Arizona, then we probably wouldn't be on TV those games...Until Louisiana has a second team come forward and go 10-2 or 9-3 or even 8-4, nothing will change...
One reason is that no other schools in the state are any good, why would ESPN want to show LSU vs. tulame, it not exactly a great rival when we always beat them. :geaux: :geaux: :dis: :dis: :lsug:
I cannot accept that statement:shock: The darkside is not strong enough to sway 'a huge LSU fan' away from the force.
i agree, no team in Louisiana will get you on CBS. But, will Tech( who I believe is on tv second most to LSU) get you another game on ESPN in the first 2 weeks. It did Miami. It did Florida State. Would this not help everyone. But all Louisiana schools have to be more consistant before they get to where they want, I know that. But would LSU fans see the potential for future gains by having an in state rival. Didn't Florida Sate used to get the crap beat out of them. But look at them now. Now, I am not saying anyone is a FSU in Louisiana, but Tech use to beat Kansas State. Look at them. I don't see the down side. If LSU loses, then you might lose a few recruits but not enough to change the direction you are going. Even though the Colo-Colo St game is competitive, is not Colorado the one who almost went to the National Championship a few years ago? Are they still not the ones who are considered the main athletic University in Colorado? And on a side note, the WAC and MWC are not too diferent. There is alot more money in the MWC, but Fresno and Boise and Hawaii are being looked at by the MWC, so it can't be that bad. C-USA wants 3 members as well. As you can tell, I am a Tech fan.
So basically, you want to know why LSU doesn't try to make a big deal out of a rivalry with another school, thereby allowing that school to leach off of LSU's national spotlight, in hopes that someday that school can get some national attention, split the state's talent with LSU, and end up with 2 mediocre schools in the state rather than 1 good one? I don't know, good question.
If you were once a fan and are no longer, Im assuming you never attended LSU. In which case, I dont think anyone would hold it against you, having no ties to the university. If you did attend LSU, and turned your back....God have mercy on your sould. LSU is the only major conference marquee school in the state, and thats why there isnt a big in-state rivalry. If one of the other teams would step up and win a game every once in a while, maybe some type of rivalry would start to develop. We had Tulane in 2001, ULL last year, and we get ULM and La. Tech this year. The directional schools have not been competing at the highest level of athletic competition (and I mean this lightly, seeing as they are in the Sunbelt at best) for long enough to be any kind of power, and Tulane suffers from being a private institution. All those other states you mentioned have teams that are of similar levels of competition.
The question regarding scheduling of smaller, In-State institutions rather than smaller, Out-of-State ones for the non-conference slots on the schedule comes up frequently in Alabama. Most notably, Alabama-vs-UAB, Auburn-vs-Troy State, AU-vs-ASU. The "For" argument always includes references to keeping revenues within the State University system. The "Against" argument sems to center around "fanbase Protectionism" and competitive recruiting.
that is not it at all KC. Louisiana has more talent than most states in high school football. Most of them leave. WHY? LSU could still contend for a SEC title and a Nat. Title with an in state competitor. and you are right, Mobile, I did not attend LSU, but I grew up in Baton Rouge.
