Why does the media think Weis is such a great coach?

I don't understand why they hang on his jock strap. He is always rated as one of the best coaches in the naion, but he has NEVER won a bowl game. He is supposedly a great recruiter, but now that he is using the players HE recruited ND is getting spanked at home.

It's about what he's done at the Pro level with the Patriots. Sorry, Weis is a good OC, but in New England, when you have Tom Brady as your QB and a Bill Belichick-run defense, we could ALL look good!

Charlie Weis hype is one thing(which the media loves), recruiting and delivering a well coached football team is another. I know it's hard for a college coach to be successful in the NFL. It must be pretty humiliating for a coach like Charlie Weis to fail at Notre Dame of all places. I wonder how long ND will keep him if he turns in back to back losing seasons. Does he have a new 10 year contract?

Weiss is a very good coach. He hasn't won a bowl game because he was able to get them to BCS games where they were vastly overmatched. As far as using the players HE recruited, how long do you think he's been there? His first class, which he got a real late start on recruiting, are only true sophs. The last two classes of Ty W's were fairly small and not highly regarded (ranked by Rivals as 32 and 40). There are only 23 players left on the roster from these two classes and these are the JRs and SRs who should be the backbone of the team. ND will be abused this year; next year they will be competitive; and in 2009 they will emerge as perennial contenders.

Correction: Weiss' first class was the 40th rated class (due to his late start recruiting). This doesn't change the point that all the talent are FR and Sophs.

Sorry man, I've gotta disagree with you. There is a tremendous difference in coaching in college as opposed to the pro's. USUALLY, college coaches are the guys that show the problem when they jump to the pros. Good examples are "the old ball coach" Spurrier and our own Mr Satan,,,uh,,,,Saban. Weiss HAS NOT shown he can be the HEAD coach at any level. Next year HIS recruits will be the starters and he'll have no excuse. I think he's a fatass, overrated Assistant that should NEVER had been given a Head coaching job. But,,,,,,that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Weiss a very good coach? Based on what? He has proven absolutely NOTHING as a head coach...NOTHING.

He was able to get them to BCS games??? No sir. The MEDIA was able to get them to BCS games. You're correct when you say they were overmatched. They were only high enough in the polls to reach BCS games because they were hyped in the preseason...to the point of starting last season as #2.

Based on the fact that Ty's last two classes were small...32-40 isn't bad. Isn't Ty W the one that recruited the legendary Brady Quinn, and Darius Walker, and Rhema McKnight, and Jeff Smardjkistan?? Sounds like Ty left the cupboard pretty full...and Weiss didn't know what to do with it. Sounds like Weiss isn't a "very good coach" after all. There is absolutely NOTHING on which to base that claim.

But I do agree with another thing you say...ND will be abused this year...as they are every time they try to play real competition.:thumb:

When he left the Patriots for the ND job, the Patriots replaced him with a 30-something year old coach with ZERO coordinating experience and have made the playoffs in each of the two seasons following Weis' departure, including the AFC title game last year.

    ...you be the judge...

He has a two year record of 19-6, and last year he scored more points than any team in ND history. So he definately has good points. His problem is he can't seem to win the big games, but, because of ND's weak schedule, he only plays such games about twice a year. Actually, that last statement is not entirely fair. This year he plays 4 teams that were ranked at the beginning of the season.

ND schedule is weird in that on any given year, they can play Michigan (ok, bad example..), Michigan State, Penn State and USC and more so than not, all those teams are respectible opponents...but THEN they follow up the 2nd half of their schedule with cupcakes like the service academies and Standford...
