youve got to be joking right? naaaawwwww braaaah.... here have another hiiiiiit! "Just read the front page article on CFN. It breaks down the defenses that Bama and USC have played this year. Bama hasn't played a single team with a worse defense than USC's best defensive challenge to date (Oregon). It breaks down as such: USC 1. Oregon (48th) 2. Hawaii (100th) 3. Arkansas (57th) 4. ASU (107th) 5. Arizona (81st) 6. Notre Dame (86th) 7. Washington (97th) Bama 1. MTSU (20th) 2. South Carolina (39th) 3. UF (10th) 4. Ole Miss (26th) 5. Tenn (17th) 6. Miss St. (40th) The only defenses we've played that are even close to the pathetic defenses that USC's played this year are SC and Miss st. which we averaged 35 points a game on. This isnt far off of USC's average guys...." http://www.collegefootballnews.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24633
Very intereting! I knew USC hasn't faced a defense of any kind but I had no idea it was to that extent. Where did the numbers come from? Were they in the CFN article itself or did you look them up? I was looking for defense rankings earlier and I couldn't find them. I don't believe that Bama's offense is as good as USC's but I also believe that USC's offense is over rated. Especially after seeing these numbers.
I saw that, there's a point that may not make it to ESPN. Semi-related, I saw something about Alabama's defense having played lousy offenses. I went and looked at it and sure enough the total average offense rank of their opponents is 92.4 out of 119 teams: Middle Tenn. St. - 111, Southern Miss. - 85, South Carolina - 100, Arkansas - 55, Florida - 61, Mississippi - 104, Tennessee - 98, Utah St. - 106 , Mississippi St. – 112 I know Alabama’s defense is really good, but maybe not quite as good as their stats imply.
Hmm...USC's defense is ranked 41st in the nation and the total # of teams on their schedule that rank 40th or better? Zero. In fact, the "best" defense they'll face all year is this week versus Cal, which boasts the #50 D in the nation. Also, "good" statistical D does not always equal good team. Kansas is ranked in the top 10, for example.
its probably hard for a big 12 team not to have a good D and equally as hard for a pac 10 team to have a good D.
This USC offense is one of the best in the history of college football, IMO. Yea, the defenses they have faced this year hasn't been very impressive, but what they did against OU in the Orange Bowl last year was amazing. They got 4 offensive players right now that could easily be Top 10 picks in this year's NFL Draft. Dwayne Jarrett is one of the 4, but he is only a sophomore.
What they did last year against OU is beat a team that shouldnt have been there... Auburn would have held down that O with their SEC defense and slow played them with the running game... maybe wouldnt have won but they would have given them a game.. YES.. I did say something positive about Auburn..
One thing to remember is that OU's defense was not very good in 2004. Their secondary leaked big yards all year and a explosive pass offense in USC just exploited immensely. I do believe USC's offense if very good, but put them against a good defense to get a good measurement of how good they are realistically.
