I think most realize that I am a big Miles fan. But even with that said, I think it's stating the obvious that he would need to win AT LEAST 9 games in his first year. The talent coming back (not even including the starters) is SEC-Championship type talent, if not NC-type, and we should still have a very solid recruiting class. Granted, I don't think this is fair because going 9-2 is very good but in the eyes of LSU fans.....the 2 losses will stick out like a sore thumb to the new coach.
I was one of the ones that was a little emotional when the Miles rumor surfaced. My #1 choice was Del Rio, but that appears to be yesterdays news. If Miles is announced as our next head coach, I'm behind him 100%. I hope he's got some QB development skills because we need a coach with those skills.
What bothers me (and COT, I am not talking about you) is that it seems a lot of people say "I will support him" but in reality are just ready to bite his head off for that first loss.
I think once the emotion of this wild wild week settle down who ever the new coach is will get a fair chance to prove his ability. With the amount of talent returning a quality coach should be expected to do good early but I don't think he has to win 9 to keep the natives from getting restless.
Oh come on Twisted....you have been on this site after regular season losses People wanted Saban to step down after the Auburn and UGA losses this year.... We have been spoiled the last 3 years with success....and a lot of newcomers will be rioting if we don't win the West next year.
No doubt we have been spoiled and I wish it would continue. However there usually is and I think there will be a honeymoon period with a new coach. With the talent and facilities we have combined with the success under Saban the honeymoon will be very very short if the new guy isn't up for the challenge.
I agree that how a coach does in his first year does not necessarily mean he's a good coach. Mike Archer was 10-1-1 in his first year...
whoever it is no doubt he has ALOT of pressure on him. He has tall boots to fill. He has zero excuses because everyone agrees we should be loaded to bear. That's probably what scared some coaches off. They have that security blanket elsewhere. Sometimes it is hard to inherit someone else's team, if he loses, it's his fault, if he wins well he was supposed to wasnt he? I mean Yogi bear could coach right? Well maybe, but I bet he gets blamed IF something goes wrong EVEN if it isn't his fault. catch 22 again. but that's the way it is in football when something goes wrong, it's the coach's fault, as it should be. right or wrong it's his responibility. here's hoping WHOEVEr  hires goes undefeated next year! 8 games should be mandatory.
