dont have a rival. tulane was our only real shot at one til ark moved into sec. ark has to sustain a higher level for extended periods of time for them to be a real rival. i dont think lsu will ever really have one.
I would consider Auburn to be LSU's bigggest SEC rivalry, but that is a one-way street for LSU. Georgia and 'Bama are both considered much bigger rivals for Auburn.
Auburn/LSu is a rivalry of practicality.. winner probably will be in the championship game for the forseeable future... Tulane maintains the rivarly in baseball at least... Its too bad all the other instate schools suck in football... that instate rivalry is what other states have over us... Miami/FSU/Florida, Clemson/USC, Egg Bowl, Iron Bowl... then there's border rivalries like UT/OU, UF/UGA, UM/OSU... We have crap teams in state and crap teams on our borders...
Do a search on this topic and you'll find a half dozen threads already posted and a hundred opinions. Here is what I think: LSU had a traditional in-state rival for many decades--Tulane. There was "The Rag" whch went to the annual winner and many pranks like Tulane students painting Mike the Tiger green or LSU students seeding "LSU" in rye grass in Tulane stadium timed to come up the morning of the game. But Tulane then quit the SEC and got really bad in football (25 straight losses to LSU) and we eventually had to drop them as an annual opponent. They just don't qualify anymore as a traditional rival--except in baseball maybe. No, since Tulane's abdication of the rivalry, LSU's main rival has been whoever stood between LSU and the SEC championship. In the 60's it was Ole Miss. It was Bama in the 70's and 80's. In the 1990's it was Florida and in the 21st century it has been Auburn. At least so far.
Took the words right out of my mouth....I was going to say just about everybody. Otherwise, I would have to say Auburn....which is cool because a good friend is an Auburn grad so it makes for some good ribbing.
