He will come along, but I would really rather see Carey return kicks with Green or Addai...

  2. I remember one practice report from fall camp saying that he barely outran Nate Livings in a drill so he really turned it on after some ribbing. Maybe all he needs is a little peer pressure, he's a fast cat when he wants to be

He's 18 years old. Give him a year.

You're right about him not being as shifty as Green, he's more of a straight runner.

Give him time though, he's just a freshman. I think we are unfairly criticing him so early.

From what I have seen, he is more 400 meter track fast, than football fast. He builds speed as he goes along. He isn't too much of the explosive type that hits top speed quickly. I believe he was better at the 400 (maybe 200) than the 100 in track. There's a reason for that.

Read the depth chart. X-man is a very talent young man but he has to wait for his turn. The best players come to LSU to win it all & they know that their time will come.

Take a look back and tell me if these guys were "Football Fast"

    Bowe & Davis as Freshman:

    Dwayne Bowe - 8 games 9 catches 106 yards 0 TDS
Craig Davis- 6 games 7 catches 63 yards 0 TDs

    Xavier Carter - 5 games 5 catches 118 yards 2 TDs

XC leads LSU in Kickoff returns - 7 returns for 125 yards 17.85 YPC

Xavier did show his speed on that TD against Moo State. Atleast 3 people had the angle on him, and then Xavier just hit another gear and left them. I downloaded the video of it and watched it around 10 times in a row. If you watch, you will see him catch turn and start running straight. Then about 4 MSU players come into the picture and then Xavier just hits it and leaves them. Truly Amazing.

xman has been timid since his first return not being near as decisive enough. Even on the reverse in the 2nd game he was caught from behind easily.

He must be nervous as hell and thinking far too much. I felt so bad for him kneeling on the one. Hope he can work through it....sometimes players can't.

Don't worry about the Xman, he is young and getting his feet wet.
He will be a big contributor by the end of the year or next year.
He needs the experience, Its like the ESPN broadcast said about Broussard, the game has slowed down for him with experience and he can now cut and play better.

Try and think about the game speed especially if you never played.
It must be amazing at real speed out there!
