Where is the bubble screen this year? Seems like last year, we ran it 4-5 times a game. I assume its personnel. Mauck threw a really good bubble pass, and I think the 2 guys this year have a little trouble with it. We were so good with that play, I wish we would use it more.
Michael Clayton made it happen. It was impossible to stop Skyler or Devery on the bubble screen because MC eliminated his man on the play every time. Michael Clayton was the best blocking WR I have ever seen. He turned 20 yard runs into 50 yard runs because he took corners out of the play. If we ran it this year to Skyler or Craig Davis, I doubt Bowe or Doucet would be able to block their guy. I'd like to see it tried a few times though, although it probably gets blown up in practice everytime they run it.
I think we still have the athletes to run the play, but for the play to work it requires a very precise throw. Randall has struggled with the throw all year, including throwing a couple completely over the head of the WR. Russell has not been too much better on the play.
I totally agree that Clayton was the guy who made that play effective. Also, the bubble screen was great because we could run it, fake it and throw down field, fake it - fake down field - and then throw it, fake it and run the draw, etc. Mauck made a living on that play and he put the ball on the money. For LSU last year, the bubble screen was like the 3rd Down and 4 Playstation football play you always go to. On a side note: is it just me or is this the year of the reemergence of the HB pass and the fake FG / Punt?
