I have heard rumors that they are expanding the stadium OR building a new one! Honestly, I really would like to see it upgraded and add more seats(outfield), not a new one. Their are just to many memories at the Box. It would be sorta like tearing down Memorial Stadium(Nebraska), Notre Dame stadium, Michigan stadium, etc. Let's just upgrade that baby to 15,000!!!!!
Alex Box is on a too-small plot of ground with no growth room. It was on the edge of campus when it was built in the 1940's, but it is surrounded by development on the modern campus. It is cramped and in the way of campus master plan future developments. The plan is to build a new stadium (also called Alex Box) about a half mile away as part of a new sports complex with plenty of parking in a park-like setting with lots of trees. Supposedly it will be in a similar style to the Box with covered grandstands. If they can rebuild Yankee Stadium , they can rebuild Alex Box.
