Just ponderin'............. What happens when a minority or minorities become the majority ? For instance, here in Central Texas we have an ever-increasing hispanic population. At some point, predicters say, hispanics will become the majority if current trends continue. Currently, hispanics and other minority citizens enjoy certain protections that majority folks aren't covered by. When the census shows that there are more hispanics than whites in Texas, do all the state laws change as far as who they protect and pertain to. And if I'm still able, will I become a roofer ?
LOL. Actually, Hispanics (whose genetic roots sprout from Spain) are White and should not be considered a minority. Their categorization as a minority is a legal fiction so they can become eligible for federal and state benefits. It is the entitlement system run amock.
What will happen? Nothing. Hell, women have always been the majority, but the are classified as a minority in hiring. White Anglo Saxon males are 33.8 % of the population, but will always be considered the majority. Go figure.
Actually Mexicans are mostly American Indian heritage. Cubans and Puerto Ricans are mostly European heritage with a hell of a lot of African mixed in.
I can't wait to get my LA Purchase card, buy stuff at Wal-Mart and sell it on ebay. Ca$h Money, Baby!!! I can start getting paid for having more children (why did I get that stupid vasectomy?). And I can stand around acting like I don't understand while someone from the majority gets aggravated with me and does it themself. Its becoming oh so clear now. How can I get in on this minority thing?
Actually, the thing that got me thinking about this this morning is that in my office there are 13 white males and 14 white females in a workforce of 70. So whites comprise approx. 38%. Who's the minority ? Now if you subtract the white women (and I have enjoyed subtracting white women since I was a teenager  ), that means the white men make up about 18% of the total. The women join the other minorities in a "protected class", and some employees fit in several protected classes (for example, a hispanic female over 40 yoa). Now considering the over 40 protected class, that makes 11 of the 13 white men "protected" (although as one of them, I've never felt any safer :nope: ). This means we have 68 of 70 employees in some sort of protected class and I suppose that says the other 2, Todd and Jason, are up $hit creek.:hihi: Strangest part of all of this is even with the numbers I shared above, we have all types of legal and procedural conflicts (EEO complaints, Human Rights Commission complaints, discrimination complaints, discrimination lawsuits, etc.) Go figure.
i like being a minority. i enjoyed hanging with darkies in btr public schools. particularly at mckinley which is in the ghetto. in my neighborhood now there is no real majority, i think i read somwehere that my neighborhood is literally the most diverse community on the planet. i wouldnt be suprised, because there is a little bit of everything and alot of nothing. yes, and you will ride to work in the back of a pickup track with 15 of your amigos.
Not so fast, amigo. Check out an excerpt from the local daily rag today: http://www.insidebayarea.com/argus/localnews/ci_4188647 I'd say my community is pretty diverse, too. I must admit, I prefer the Asians in my community because they take care of their property, respect others property and are generally friendly. They help keep my property value HIGH. :thumb: Some of the whites and hispanics (long term residents) here though are disrespectful of others and the community, generally acting entitled for no apparent reason other than the fact they were here the longest. :dis: The next several years here in Fremont should prove to be interesting, that's for sure...
nah thats not that diverse, half asians, and the rest white and hispanic, where are the blacks and jews and arabs? half of anything is way too much. check out my town: "an almost equal mix of non-Hispanic whites, non-Hispanic blacks, Asians, and Latinos. Of all cities in the United States, it has one of the largest Arab and Muslim populations and proportions, one of the largest Asian proportions, and one of the largest proportions of various Latino and Hispanic ethnicities outside the southwest. It also has higher-than-average numbers of Jews, Italians, Cubans, Filipinos, Indians, and Irish than most cities in the nation."
