When did LSU use

When and what game did LSU use two QB's in the game at the same time ? Paul Ditzel was the coach , if i am not wrong it was a direct snap to which ever QB was to get the ball,

 

Well, I remember several games where David Woodley and Steve Ensminger both played. That was in the last few years of Cholly Mack.

 

I don't remember it happening, but have only followed the Tigers since 85.

Dietzel is unlikely to have done it though. The substitution rules in the late 50s and early 60s prevented a player from going in and out of a game at will. That's why Dietzel's "White Team" played both ways. Bringing a qb in to do that would either keep him in for an extended time or prevent him from coming in later in the quarter. That's why Dietzel developed both offensive and defensive backup teams.

GEAUX TIGERS

 

First play of the Auburn game in 1969 or 1970. I forget the QB under center but he lateral passed to Paul Lyons whu passed to a wide open Andy Hamilton for a TD. I believe we won 14-13 as George Bevan blocked the point after. The barners were ranked 4 at the time and I think we were 7. Great game! I was in HS and at the top of the south endzone upper deck. The play came right at us.

That is it I think I thought for a play or two I had seen it . may not be a bad idea to use it a few times against bama , they would have to play the run and pass. LOL The old wing T maybe old enough to work LOL

 

In high school our team ran the single wing...with directional snaps and NO quarterback. The tailback did the passing. Four yards and a cloud of dust type offense.


Now they call it the "wildcat or wildtiger".


That does sound like one of Miles' crazy plays though. I don't like gimmick plays. Bama lost to us on one like that.

 

It was an Ole Miss game they debut that in. Confused Ole Miss pretty well. Never could figure out why they did it for Ole miss and not for ranked Bama the next week.

 

Gilbert threw that pass I believe. First name might have been Buddy. To Hamilton I think.

 

Thanks you are right it was Paul Lyons to Jimmy Gilbert to Andy Hamilton (Bert Jones cousin). BTW that was one of many QB controversies under Charley Mac going back to Pat Screen. David Woodley/Steve Ensminger; Paul Lyons /Bert Jones and others. There was even a mini dust up with Tommy Hodson & Micky Guidry. Then there were the Rohan/Jamie Howard days under Saban.
As someone said the most popular player at LSU is the second string QB.
