A team (LSU) with a great defense and a struggling offense or a great offense and no defense (WVU)?

Me personally, I want the first of the two. Shootouts are fun to watch, but defenses win championships.

Our #1 in the country defense will most likely lead us to no championships this year. That should tell you a little something about football.

neither did I. i was saying that the offense must do something in order to win championships.

for example, against arkansas at home in 2003, cedric cobbs was running all over our asses en route to a 17-17 tie at the end of the first quarter. #1 defense in the land looked like ass.

lsu's 2006 offense would have lost that game, but in 2003 we put up 55 points.

a stat someone mentioned on the other board: LSU with Jamarcus Russell as the full time starter at QB has not scored more than 21 points on offense against a ranked team.

against arizona state we had 2 special teams touchdowns and against tennessee we had a pick-6.

The only reason why we were even remotely close in the florida game was our defense...we cant keep on relying on these guys in big games...the offense has to do something sooner or later.

Your question was either or but I'm greedy, I want both, a balance of talent on both sides of the ball and I believe we have that. Having to choose which one is stronger, I'd definitely take the defense but you have to have a strong offense to go with it to consistently win games- like you all don't know that- but that's what I want.

I prefer both as well. But I'd go with the defense. I hate hearing that our offense has sucked against solid competition as of late, and I have faith that we are on the cusp of turning that around, but that faith is dwindling. I don't see a good reason why our offense isn't better than it is.

With the talent we have on both sides of the ball we shouldn't have to settle for one or the other. However if I had to choose I'd take a strong offense. You only need to look back at the Auburn game to see why, you hold an opponent to 7 points and still lose. I think you need both to contend for SEC championships, but you can win national championships with just one of either as long as your O can score more than 3 against quality competition.
