I saw the pics in the "oil industry" thread below that included some Fourchon pics. Looks awful. I spent countless days fishing and puttering around the island as a kid. I'd sure hate to see it go, but most folks new it would eventually cease to be. . . Has the Grand Isle finally surrendered to the gulf?
Haven't heard too much about Grand Isle. I did see some footage on tv and it seems that they did pretty well down there (as well as could be expected). Most of the camps looked in-tact and fortunately, the water drains off the island pretty quickly. I've got some friends that live down there and if I get anymore info I'll gladly relay it.
I have confirmed through a JP offical that grand isle is under 15-20 feet of water. Everything has been washed away save a few walls of a few houses and bldgs. GI is now part of the gulf of mexico. unreal.
No offense intended, but you should double check your source there... I just saw live arial video of Grand Isle today, and yesterday as well.. I saw alot of structural damage, and homes washed away, but there were many still standing and definately not 15 feet of water..... Wouldn't suprise me if it had been that high at one point... But for the most part the island is dry now.
My understanding is that the island of Grande Isle faired really well all things considered. However, the roadway leading down to Grade Isle was more or less demolished for many many miles.
and they say I lie? :hihi: that was never the case... people were on the island as early as Monday night cleaning stuff out by the way Friday, I am talking about the official, not YOU don't take it the wrong way
A report from The Advocate stated 80% of all buildings were flattened, the other 20% sustained heavy damage. It'll be interesting to see how much of the land is now part of the gulf. Same can be said for Plaquemines Parish.
