They cannot possibly pay the dome enough to cover the cost of their games?

    What a Jackass.

the question is actually how badly does the superdome screw them.

It was Tulane alumni that screwed TUlane

Many of them were to make MONEY off the Superdome being built. Even if TUlane Stadium were nor able to be modified and fixed, it could have ebeen replaced by a 35,000 seat stadium that would have been PERFECT for TUlane.

I heard the main obstacle to building an on-campus stadium for Tulane is finding enough free land adjacent to the campus, and that it will take several years to purchase all the land necessary on which to build a stadium. If they could ever get enough of it, since the Superdome isn't far off for really, really big games, I think they should go all out, building a state-of-the-art 48,000 seat retractable roof stadium with luxury boxes, a big, nice pressbox, jumbotrons scoreboards, synthetic Field Turf, the works. Then they should work hard to sell that stadium out every game. It seems Tulane is attracting about 35K in attendance year. With a little marketing work and the new excitement and MUCH increased student attendance an on-campus stadium would bring, getting to 45K shouldn't be that big a deal. Then Tulane could finally start moving forward substantially in athletics. I think they've made some progress of late, but there doesn't need to be any more talk of dropping football. That is just negative for the whole university.

Maybe one game a year in the Superdome, preferably against LSU every other year if I got my way, is a good idea. Other than that, play them all at new Tulane Stadium.

    JetStorm,

You give WAY too much credence to the posters on the Tulane Boards and the stats provided BY TULANE to the T-P on attendance numbers. Uncle Gus and I went to the TCU and let me assure you - THERE WAS NO MORE THAN 20,000 people there. And, that was probably Tulane's best game (attendance wise). Right now, they're getting about 10,000 in the Dome. And, that's about the overall average over the last few years.

Certainly, student attendance would raise it A LITTLE more if the stadium was on campus. But, not enough to matter.

Even at the TCU game, I overheard the guy in front of me say that he made the ticket scanner scan in 30 unused tickets so that the attendance numbers would be jacked up.

Believe me - Tulane isn't coming CLOSE to 35,000.
