I assume the coaches would not play him against North Texas and burn his redshirt elegibility if they weren't planning to use him a lot this season. How close is he to the other two quarterbacks in skill level and composure?
I believe the rule is that you can play in the first three games and still be eligible for your redshirt. I could be mistaken, though. That'll probably be all the snaps he gets this year.
As far as raw skill from what I hear he's better than the other two. He threw one pass last night that was pretty far off though. On the radio after the game, Les talked to Jordy about #9 (Jefferson) running the ball pretty well and he might get a few touches next week. I hope they work on getting him more comfortable so that he can do more than run the ball, because I think we need some help at QB.
I think Les needs three quarterbacks who can play this year. One injury could put us into a situation with a reserve quarterback with no PT. There is little point in reshirting him when we have a 5-star quarterback recruit committted for next year. Better to stagger the classes.
Hmmm. Is Jefferson going to play--or not? I'm not liking what I'm seeing at QB in the first two games. This is (one of) our Achilles heel postions. CB is another one. I didn't like the number of passes UNT completed on us last night.
Jefferson's redshirt is over unless he gets "injured" and "cannot play". Wink-wink-nudge-nudge. Much like Hatch last year, who got "injured" after the MTSU game, but actually went into the Bama game before LSU called timeout to avoid having to run a play. He got a medical redshirt in probably the least defensible medical redshirt ruling ever. That said, I think Jefferson plays, and I think he'll be competing to be the start by next year.
i dont either, stacey. and i was thinking more along the lines of its gonna kick us in the ass. i did not go to bed this morning feeling better about the rest of the season. after the appy state game, while i wasnt impressed, i thought the our qb's were good enough to "get by" with the rest of the team making up for the weaknesses. now, im not so sure.
There were times during that game when neither guy could've hit the broadside of a barn. The series near the end of the game when Lee sailed two sure TD's 10 yards over the heads of his wide-open receivers was sad. I think one of those balls (4th down) sailed throught the uprights.
and that was one of those "wtf" moments that left me sitting there with my mouth open. its not often i am speechless, but that did it!
