then there is a good chance you might not have hired coach miles. at least not at oklahoma state. when offered the job, he said no to part of the compensation for himself, instead saying that he wanted the portion he was turning down going to assistants. that was looking out for the good of the program, not his own short term gain. and in the long run it paid off for both because better assistants made for a better overall program. i dont see that attitude being any different than what cparso would do.
I would never hire Coach Miles. Nick Saban is the only reason why we are where are today. Miles hasn't won anything with his own recruits and has only piggy backed on Saban's success :hihi::hihi:
Turning down compensation would be of benefit to the company - boards don't tend to dislike people putting the company above themselves. Sure there are, and I'd like to teach business classes eventually as well, but I was born to be a CEO.
I certainly understand the single act of turning down compensation is good for the company but my point was that it could be a mindset that could turn off a potential employer. I have a certain amount of respect for people who haggle like hell with me over small amounts of money because I know they are doing the same when the situation will benefit me.
