With the recent commital of 6', 225, 4.6, Evangel running back Jacob Hester, where does that leave 6'2", 210, 4.5, Redemptorist running back Jay Lucas in regards to LSU? Do we still have room for him? Is Hester a better RB than Lucas? Suddenly it looks like LSU has backed off on Lucas. Any ideas as to why that might be?:tigerhead
Not that I have any specific information (just speculation), but I would think that with the core of RB's already on the team (Vincent, Addai, Carey, Edwards, Broussard) and others already committed (Watson, Hester), what are they supposed to do with Lucas with all of those guys already in front???? I mean, there's only so much place you can put them. Sure, you could try to convert one to WR (i.e. Henderson), but unlike Henderson's situation in the past, we have a solid group of VERY talented WR's (Clayton, Green, Hill, Bowe, Brazell, etc.). You could also try to convert them to DB (i.e. Webster)--but there too, our success on the field has translated into success in recruiting and we have what will be a STACKED and powerful defensive backfield for years to come. Now, I can't say for certain that LSU has backed off on Lucas cause truth be told, I have no clue. But if that is the case, I can certainly see why--There just aren't enough positions for the kid.
convert to wide-out?? I always see people posting about converting people to wide-out. We had two cases of special players that were converted from tailback to wide-out. One was Josh Reed - everyone knows what he accomplished. The other Devery Henderson. Devery always has had more of a mold for a receiver than a tailback. Devery is 6'1" 185lbs. He ran a 10.3 100 meter dash his senior year at OHS and a 21.3 200 meter dash. It is a very hard transition for a player to move from tailback to wide-out and don't really see anyone on our squad capable of making a move. Just my two cents.
Re: convert to wide-out?? You forgot to mention a third...one of the greatest WRs in Tiger history, Eric Martin. He was actually LSU's leading rusher as a freshman, before converting to split end as a sophomore, and lighting up the LSU & SEC record books at the time.
Not only that, but the talent levels at WR when Josh Reed and Henderson were moved there was FAR LESS than what we have now. We have wideouts now that are down right dominant and spectacular!!!
Actually Hester is expected to play FB or LB, not RB. I think they want to use Hester as a pass catching fullback, and as an occasional rusher(i.e. Mike Alstott). So he will not be a RB next year. I think Lucas will sign and be redshirted. They might back off of him if Saban thinks he can get Adrian Peterson, but that is doubtful.
SHAWN JORDAN What about the FB (Shawn Jordan?) that we signed last year. Anybody have any news/info on how he has been progressing and what the future may hold. As I recall his video from The Bash showed an oustanding FB. Just curious. GEAUX TIGERS!
Re: i agree sorry quoted wrong email the kid from texas we got last year at FB is what im talking about.
