well two "best" (or should i say the highest ranked) SEC teams just got thier asses handed to them in this year's bowl games by far inferior teams (in my opinion), seems like LSU is the only SEC team that took care of business (racking up 40 points on the nations best defense, while auburn couldn't score on one of the worst defenses in the nation). does this mean that people can say that the SEC isn't as good as everyone thinks?
Well, no excuse for Auburn...I agree with you that they should have won that game as I feel that have a better team than Wisconsin. But in terms of UGA and WVU...perhaps it's an understatement to say that it's possible that WVU was underrated in the eyes of everyone else in the SEC. After all, they were their conference champs and ranked 11th...and the bottom line is that they won by only 3 against the 8th ranked team. If you didn't see HOW UGA fell behind by 28, but rather just woke up this morning and saw a 38-35 WVU victory, you wouldn't think it was a "major" upset considering an 11th ranked team won by only 3 vs the 8th ranked team.
...that would probably depend on which cloud you have the SEC on! If you're one of those who thinks all these other teams would "finish no better than Ole Miss if they played in the SEC" (as someone posted a while back), then you'll go with the logic that both Auburn and Georgia only lost because they came out flat ... and your life will go merrily on. I think the SEC is a great conference (perhaps slightly down this year), but I also believe the difference between two or three of the top conferences are minimal at best. Did Auburn's loss suprise me... sure.... but I also thought WV would give Georgia all they could handle.... probably just a respect thing I have for any 10-1 team. The fact is, at this level, if you don't prepare your best, then play your best, you're asking for trouble. The difference between most these teams is quite small, imo.
I noticed the young and talented QB for WV was from Luling La which is right outside of NO. So I decided to do a quick roster check from WVU and I found out something very interesting. I noticed Many of wvu players are from SEC country. Like 5 from LA and another 5 from Fl and still another 5 from AL. In fact only like 20% of their players are from WV. I guess there's no law against taking players from other states but your starting to see alot of this from teams like Iowa and WV is there recruiting alot more from other areas of the country. Just an interesting tidbit you can take it for what it's worth but it is kinda funny to think about how the good QB was LA homegrown as was that really talented wide receiver from Boutte out of Hanhville high.
yea your right my bad I got mixed up with the WR that got hurt was from there, but my point is still accurate-- "SEC land" players by these out of conference teams
Pat White originally verbally committed to LSU as an athlete but later saw the talent here and it was pretty much known he wasn't coming here when he signed with WVU on signing day.
Just goes to show you that no one knows how things will go in college football. The two SEC teams I thought would lose would be Bama and LSU and I thought Auburn was a mortal lock to beat Wisconsin. I didn't think Bama's defense could hold Texas Tech's offense in check or that the Tide offense would score enough to win. I thought LSU would have a tough time with a new starting QB but WOW am I glad I was wrong there too. And there was no way you could've convinced me that Auburn's offense would have trouble with a previously terrible Wisconsin defense. Nor did I think Calhoun would gouge Auburn's defense repeatedly. I'm sure glad I only wagered $10 on the whole bowl scene.
What I don't get is that he committed to us one week before signing day. How do you "see all of the talent here and recant" in 1 week? Especially the week before signing day? It would be one thing if he had committed like in June or something.
