Word in the NFL was that if Denver didnt make the Playoffs Shannahan may get the boot and Gruden may leave TB after this season and that they were possible candidates.
They were names that we tossed around here, but I don't recall hearing it any place else. Shannahan's name was mentioned due to the fact that Florida tried to woo him...but I think that's about the extent of that. I wouldn't get to caught up on those two coaches just yet. Getting one of them is probably long-shots at best.
Hopefully those two names along with Del Rio and Jeff Fisher will all resurface next Monday after the NFL season. Gruden would be my pick.
Del Rio's agent has contacted SKip: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/topstories/news-article.aspx?storyid=29965 That doesn't mean he isn't using it for leverage, but it also doesn't mean he's not interested either.
But Gruden is too appealing to other NFL teams right now. Even IF were were to get him, he may very well only be with us for 2 seasons before another NFL team snags him up.
I would think that after Tampa had to give up so much to get Gruden that he isn't going anywhere. That's good news about Del Rio. Like you said though, I hope he isn't using us as leverage against the stingy owner in Jaxville.
